I am smart, pretty, and geeky.

My Self-Summary

UPDATE: I'm leaving all this stuff up for the hell of it, but I'm seeing someone, not looking, and don't particularly feel the need to find friends through the internets right now. I'll reactivate this thing next time I'm feeling a void of any sort, but right now, whatever.

I'm a college student who loves knitting, reading, and sci-fi television. Except of course that's not all of me, but one thing I'm missing in my life right now is friends to geek out with, so that would be an awesome thing to find here. I suppose. Oh goodness I think I use the word "awesome" too much in my profile. Oh well. Awesomeness is awesome?

What I’m doing with my life

Going to college, probably going to major in physics education but not 100% locked in yet. Working part-time. Also being awesome.

I’m really good at

knitting, school, the public library, figuring out the most efficient path in a well-laid-out grid. I'm also pretty good at cooking grits for a gal who only lived in the south for a year, and that eating in dining halls.

The first things people usually notice about me

my hair and/or my humorous t-shirts.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I get that common interests are not what makes a relationship, but at least in theory I'm also here to find friends who share them, because I left a really great nerdy group of friends in New Orleans I could share this sort of stuff with, but now find myself mostly alone.

Kind of my "geeky mainstay" authors are Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. A lot of what I like falls into the sci-fi/fantasy genre, but I'm not a fan of sword-and-sorcery, and I couldn't really handle Ender's Game. His Dark Materials rocked my socks off when I was younger, and Harry Potter is totally like a childhood friend. If we're going to play what in the 3rd grade got called "realistic fiction", Meg Cabot and Alexander McCall Smith are both great at portraying humanity in their work.

A lot of what I end up reading is nonfiction, but it's hard to name titles or otherwise narrow it down. I'm a fan of all Richard Dawkins's (popular) output, and tend to like what I've read in the area of "freethought books". And natural history as practiced by e.g. Simon Winchester is one of the best genres there is. I read a huge amount of craft books, especially knitting books, especially ones with the history of knitting and/or personal experiences of knitting in them. And what I call "domestic paeans" also appeal to me hugely.

movies: Don't watch them often, but Serenity is a perennial favorite

I don't have a TV, so all I've watched is stuff that's worth watching online and/or on DVD. Firefly may be the all-time fave. Buffy's great, but I like Angel better. I just finished Battlestar Galactica, and loved it. As far as stuff that's currently on the air, Dollhouse is probably tops. I'm also keeping up with Glee and Castle.

I also like a lot of produced-for-the-internet content. Dr. Horrible is in a league of its own, but The Guild and Legend of Neil have a lot of win inherent in them.

I don't really care about music in a passionate sort of way; I know when I like it, but I have more podcasts than songs on my iPod.

I'm a bit more passionate about food, but that's even harder to describe in a few sentences. I love it, and I know what's good.

The six things I could never do without

All five senses and enough mobility to dance. At least not until I get super old.

You should message me if

you think I'll think you're awesome.

You give good backrubs.

. . . Honestly, I'm super picky but I can't articulate what I want easily. So if you like me, or you want to be friends, message me. Just say something related to my profile, please.
