Things I like:
reading and writing, actually the English language in general~Prospect Park~teaching my 8th graders, (though they sometimes drive me mildly insane for the day...)~geometry and, therefore, pool~coaching basketball~inclement weather~the rare times I get a seat on the train and an old lady doesn't need it~people who are smarter and/or better read/educated than I am, (nerdiness and intellectualism in general)~bars that have board games~playing and sometimes watching sports

Things I don't care for:
underpants that ride (Maslow really dropped the ball by omitting "comfortable underwear" from the hierarchy of needs, I think)~when people snap their gum~the people who play music or sound effects on their phones as if they were along on the train~the socioeconomic factors that have led to nyc school segregation and the achievement gap for students of particular minorities~red wine~celiac disease~waking up before noon~crossword puzzles (which I suck at)

Searching for a decent gluten free blueberry muffin in the greater NYC area, reading, walking impractical routes home though the long intestines of bk, wondering which pocket my ipod is hibernating in, playing and inordinate amount of pool, avoiding razor burn, and building up the desire to travel a few hours to return my cable box. I think that covers most of it outside the realm of teaching, which takes up most all of my time.

Cooking garlic mashed potatoes, being patient with non-adults, sleeping in, Erotic Photo Hunt, reading in bad light, and grading papers in unusual places.

I have never understood the inclusion of this category.

Recently: The Road, The Once and Future King, Stranger in a Strange Land, The Book of The New Sun, A Canticle for Leibowitz, and Pablo Nerdua. Right now: The Years of Rice and Salt and Frank O'hara.
The Royal Tenenbaums and The Big Lebowski and probably my two favorite movies.
TV: Mad Men, Deadwood, Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny, The Wire, Californication, Game of Thrones, and Parks and Rec.
Music: Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Radiohead, Mumford and Sons, The National, Discovery, Arcade Fire, The Killers, Death Cab, Beirut, Discovery, Mumford and Sons, U2, classical, oldies, folksy stuff, and most things beside country, actually.
As for food, I'm allergic to gluten, so my favorite foods are, um, off the table, to use a cheap but effective pun.

Plenty of sleep. Books. Free time. Hope. Gluten free food. Running water.
