My self-summary
Hi! I'm Kevin. I have no idea how to summarize myself, so if you want to know something, just ask :)

Have a great day!

There isn't a section for interests/hobbies here, so I guess I'll throw it in this section?

Hobbies:
Cycling
Paintball
Fishing
Camping
Boating, particularly Kayaking, but I have easier access to canoes.
Playing any sport, any time.
Driving
Board and card games.
Reading/learning
Cooking
Tree climbing
Swimming
Hiking
White water canoeing in April, but would love to more
Traveling

This year I want to get into:

Climbing
SCUBA diving

I was told by an older gentleman whom I am good friends with that upon first meeting me, or hearing some of my activities you'd think I'm a very shallow, surfacey, aloof kinda guy but that he never expected to get to know me well enough to realize I'm exceptionally deep, real, nuanced. I kinda like that description, though I wish there wasn't something to see past first.

I used to describe myself as a doer of things. Its the easiest way to define ones self, but now I really don't know how to identify a person, or where identity should be/is rooted. I am more than the sum of actions, thoughts, beliefs, inactions, mistakes, occupation, position attributed to me. These days though, I over simplify and call myself a profwssional change maker. I feel its accurate and pretty encompassing of my life as a whole.

I prefer action to inaction or talk.

I like good things to happen.
I like to help.
I love word play; Double meanings, puns, multiple levels of thought in a statement, alliteration, all of it!
I love tasty food.

I am a terrible person
I am more concerned with the company I keep than the activities we are doing.
I am always thirsty.
I am a part of the problems; but can also be part of the solutions.

I value life, autonomy, freedom, joy, experience, trust, intimacy, truth, and much more.

I wish I danced.
I wish I sung more, and was better at it.
I wish I got cold like a normal person.
I wish I was better with the middle of processes.

I dream of a day where humanity as a whole is better to itself, and therefore better off.
I long for a day when our culture recognizes some of its own toxic tendancies and works towards correcting them.
I dream of a day where honesty is a moment to moment reality.
I dream of a day when body image isn't an issue because people learn and truly, fully believe they are so much more than their body and that who they are and how they live matters so much more than simply how they look.
I dream of a day where we treat illnesses and cure things instead of lessening the symptoms; both literally and metaphorically.
I dream of a day where the church is actually the church.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm doing a lot of things with life right now, but aren't we all? I'm living, which is good. I work, I play, I have fun, I adventure, I learn, I pursue, I love. These things I do with my life.

I work a full time job supporting an individual with developmental disabilities. We share a house, we live life, we enjoy it.

I'll be going back to school as soon as I figure out what I want to go there for. I likely won't be pursuing a degree that's marketable but instead, I'll be going for what interests me. I'm going to be getting my real estate license this year and whenever I quit working this job as the full timer I will be getting a 4 family flat and renting out 3 of them.
I’m really good at
I'm the opposite of a fair weather friend. When things go awry, I'm the one who gets called. I fix things. I solve problems. I do it well.

I am really good at getting pretty good at things really quick. In no way am I an expert on most, but if I do/try things a few times, I tend to get ahead of where someone who's been doing it a lot longer would expect to be at... I hope that made sense.

I'm great at reading and learning. I'm almost constantly doing both.

Cooking
Teaching
being active
biking
caring
helping people
plenty more
The first things people usually notice about me
My hair is probably longer then yours. I get comments on it all the time. Even people who've met me many times, and sometimes good friends, are surprised by how long my hair is.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I'm big into non-fiction. I like reading with a purpose and find that history offers more interesting stories then most fiction. This certainly doesn't tell you my favorite books, but I feel being more general is actually more helpful here.

Movies: I'm honestly not a huge fan of movies. I can't stand to watch them by myself. Its too much time being disengaged for me to bear. I can be annoying to watch movies with, I like to talk and comment during them. It turns a passive experience into an active process. I also get way more out of it. I do however enjoy documentaries almost unquestionably. I'm big on dialog driven movies. It probably has something to do with my longing for the return of the radio show...

Shows: I haven't had a television hooked up in at least two years and I don't regret it. I also don't watch things online. I used to enjoy house, a few animes, the history channel and discovery. Oh, Magic School Bus and Wishbone will always hold special places in my heart. As will Recess, Doug, Hey Arnold and many others.

Music: I like a lot of music. I like music that says something. Powerful/deep/meaningful lyrics are a turn on. I like rap/hip-hop that actually says something. Its my preferred genre right now. I'm also really into rock. I used to be really into classic rock. The Who and Rush will always be favorites but sadly, my interests have strayed away from them and I've grown to appreciate select contemporary rock. I could always rock out to classical, and I'm a huge fan of the man who writes his own stuff and plays his own music.

Food: I love food. There are few things I do not like. I love ethnic foods. I have a history with people from pretty much every region of the world, and food from all over is one of the ways I remember and internally reconnect. Eating food from other nations is actually a deeply personal experience for me.
The six things I could never do without
I could do without a lot of things.... Most of the time, I'd prefer to. It really boils down to good company, God being the best company there is.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness.
Religion, spirituality, theology.
Dreams, goals, plans.
Past, present, future.
What I'm learning about at the time.
The people in life I care about.
Things I know that are bothering people, or are wrong with them.
The many, many people who've been in my life, but no longer are.
On a typical Friday night I am
I work about two Friday nights a month. The other two, it depends on the day really. Friday night means no more or less to me then any other night of the week. Its just another night out there to enjoy.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I don't know. If I knew what would be considered "private" I guess I'd have a place to start? I'll admit to anything. I lack shame, though I'm not happy with everything about who I am or what I've done in the past. I've certainly not lead a perfect life, but realize that only one person has, and I'm not he.

5-20-2012 I just realized I'm barefoot in every picture on here. WIN!

As of 7-19, I'm going to post any/every question people ask me in first messages along with the answer :)
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 18–26
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating
You should message me if
you'd like to. I love getting to know people, and would probably love to hear from you. I'm not huge on electronic communication, so don't be surprised if after a while of chatting on here, I try to actually hang out in the real world (its better out there anyway)
