I value creativity and cleverness, and I often have an allergy to official spectacles (like sports, political parties, television programming, etc.).

I make weird films, write for a magazine, act in a play and in films, and teach in a university. Sometimes I get interviewed for books and podcasts, and sometimes I'm on the other side of the mic. I also collect art and Art Deco. My apartment is full of odd stuff I've found in NYC over the years and I'll have it photographed once I finish the kitchen.

While I enjoy traveling, it's not something I do as often as I'd like. Perhaps you will help me with this.

This is a hard question to answer because I'm not another person.

Books - I generally read non-fiction and often in clumps surrounding particular writing and film projects. This is not to say that I don't like fiction - I love fiction - but my reading tends to be more programmatic than recreational.

Films - I watch a lot of film noir, older films, indies, documentaries. Here are some enduring favorites: Night and the City, The Bicycle Thief, The Vanishing, Metropolis, Spies, Talk to Her, Run Lola Run, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Memento............and most anything by Preston Sturges, Deren, Almodovar, Kubrick, Kustarica, Lang, Cronenberg. It just goes on and on....

Music - rock, cabaret noir, noise, post-punk, weird folk, 60s garage and rnb, klezmer, classical, bebop, fucked up dance music, Norton records, or whatever is playing on WFMU. My current musical obsession is Black Merda. I was a DJ for several years and I own a record collection in the thousands.

Food - I eat generally healthy, whole foods (fruit, veg, etc), and as little refined sugar and processed food stuff as possible. I don't eat meat or birds.

Why play by the rules?

starting a family before I am too old. Otherwise, I dwell on art, life, quotidian crap, etc. How about you? What are YOUR current obsessions?
