I am type-a, athletic, and secretly nerdy.
My Self-Summary
I just moved to London from the States, where I have lived all my
life (but never in one place for too long). I was in Washington DC
for the last 6 months and prior to that I lived in New York City
(infinitely better than DC). I grew up in and around Chicago and
have also lived outside Detroit and in Connecticut. Only after
moving to London did I realize that there aren't any British people
here. Weird.
I like going to
concerts, exploring the city, lifting,
running and
cycling,
reading, and checking out
new bars and restaurants. I stay out late and get up early. My body
hates me.
What I’m doing with my life
Buying and selling companies. No, really.
Outside of work I travel whenever I can, hit up art museums
(favorite in NYC was either the New Museum or the Whitney; favorite
in London is probably the Tate Modern; DC had no good art museums,
sadly), read, and teach myself things (e.g. building a computer,
fixing a bike, etc.).
I’m really good at
Organizing information. Multitasking. Dragging my ass out of bed.
Cultural zeitgeist. Trying to do too much.
Avoiding deer while riding a motorcycle. Keeping said motorcycle on
the road after avoiding the aforementioned deer, not so much.
The first things people usually notice about me
My voice is deeper than you'd expect.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I listen to music all the time, but recently I've been into Dead to
Me, Deadmau5, and The xx. More generally, I'm into punk, ska,
indie, jazz, and electronic music. I judge people who say they like
all kinds of music without any substantiation, or say "anything but
country". It's such a cop-out.
Concerts attended this summer:
In DC: Ratatat, Alkaline Trio / Saves the Day, The Gaslight Anthem
/ Pela / Good Old War, The National, The Hold Steady, Nine Inch
Nails / Jane's Addiction, Plain White T's (in my defense, it was
free and I had nothing else to do), The Aggrolites
In London: The Bronx / Mariachi El Bronx, Polar Bear Club + A
Wilhelm Scream
Upcoming: Dillinger Four; Gallows
I'm always reading something. Right now I'm in the middle of
re-reading "Infinite Jest" by David Foster Wallace. Favorite
authors: Salinger, Kerouac, Klosterman, Diaz, +more
The last good movie I saw was Up. I'm not going to lie, I love
Pixar movies. Other favorites: Easy Rider, La Haine, American
History X, Rebel Without a Cause, Igby Goes Down, Paranoid Park,
Wristcutters: A Love Story, The Wrestler, Entre les Murs (aka The
Class)
London has ruined breakfast for me. Seriously, breakfast food here
is crap. What gives? Also, it's really difficult to find good
peanut butter. Go to a Waitrose or a Sainsbury or Tesco or M&S
and check out the peanut butter. You'd think you're eating peanuts,
right? Wrong. Peanuts and palm oil, even in the organic varieties.
Whole Foods is the only place I've found so far that sells good
natural peanut butter--i.e. peanuts and no additives. If I want
crap in my peanut butter I'll add it myself, jerks.
The six things I could never do without
in-ear monitors (think headphone/earplug combination)
physical activity (lifting, running, cycling, tennis, sex,
whatever)
white t-shirts
music (playing (drums), listening to, watching live)
adventure
books
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My next big project/goal. Currently: marathon (on hold due to
injury), getting my motorcycle license here
Aesthetics, memetics, and what makes specific works of
art/literature/music/movies "great".
On a typical Friday night I am
These days I've been working a lot. If I'm not, I'm usually out
either seeing a show, checking out a new bar or restaurant, or just
hanging out with friends. I've decided I need to go out in
Shoreditch / Hoxton more.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I don't really like celebrating my own birthday. I don't know why.
You should message me if
you don't take yourself too seriously. People on this island are
pretty high-strung. I don't know if it's the latent class anxiety
or what, but it's perplexing.
