My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am a thoughtful, laid-back, sarcastic, well-rounded nerd. I'm fairly quiet at first and I don't generally rush into things. But, once I've made up my mind on something I will put all of my energy into it. I moved out to SF from New York City about two years ago, for a tech job. I'm still here because I love it (SF, although I do also enjoy my job). This city is just big enough, with enough culture, food and people, for me not to miss New York. But here I can also hop in my car, drive less than an hour, and go for a beautiful hike or sit on a beach or spend an afternoon tasting wine. I have always liked exploring and being outdoors, and the Bay Area lets me enjoy doing that in a way New York never could.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
After college I spent a number of years teaching high school math. It was challenging and rewarding for all of the obvious reasons, but eventually I figured out it wasn't what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I'm a little too introverted to enjoy performing in front of a room full of adolescents, trying to hold their inteterest in factoring polynomials, for six hours a day, five days a week. So, I quit my teaching job, became a full-time software developer and I haven't looked back since. Currently I work for a startup doing mostly iOS development. I love the abstract problem-solving challenges of my work, but also the sense of accomplishment at building something that lots of people actual use. It's certainly not the same as teaching, and unfortunately my current job doesn't have much to do with education, but I am learning a ton about how successful teams, products and companies are built. My hope is that some day I will be able to take this experience, combine it with what I learned working in the classroom, and build my own education-focused startup.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I have a friend who believes that every individual has one super-power. Mine is navigation. I excel at knowing exactly where I am and figuring out how to get where I need to go, geographically speaking. I love exploring new places, puzzling over maps, and otherwise orienting myself in the physical world. And once I am familiar with a place I never forget how to get around it, even if I haven't been there in years.

Some runner-up candidates for my super-power included:
- sarcasm and dry wit,
- puzzle and problem solving,
- strategy and board games,
- circulation (my fingers and toes NEVER get cold, and cuts heal extremely fast),
- organization.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Well, I'm six foot four with red hair. I think that makes me stand out.

As soon as I open my mouth it becomes obvious that I am hopelessly sarcastic. But, occasionally I also have something intelligent to say. I am also pretty self-deprecating.

Food: natural, healthy, authentic, carefully-prepared anything. I will cook it. I will go to a restaurant.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I do a lot of different things to unwind at the end of a week, including:
- cooking and enjoying a delicious meal (and drinking a few bottles of wine) with friends,
- attending an interesting cultural event (jazz, opera, orchestra, baseball game?),
- trying a new restaurant,
- resting up because I'm getting up at the crack of dawn to drive out of the city and hike all day Saturday,
- playing nerdy board games,
- going out on the town (I prefer a speakeasy to a club, but get a few in me and we can go somewhere to dance).
