My Self-Summary

I have decided to really simplify my entire profile.

I am a good person to have in your life - in any capacity save for "enemy." I'm afraid 'm not a very good adversary due to the fact that there are so many other good things to focus on other than conflict. I'm a good friend, an excellent listener and giver of advice. I'm almost always down to go grab some dinner or hang out on short notice. I realize that having a good time is 95% the company you are with, and only 5% location.

And I am a positively STELLAR boyfriend. I remember anniversaries and birthdays and special occasions without being reminded. I will do that thing you like - over and over. I'm a great kisser. Remember the best boyfriend you ever had? Pffffft. Amateur. :)

What I’m doing with my life

This: http://www.reveriemonks.org/blog mostly. I work as a software developer. (yawn) I play in 2 bands for fun, and also write and record a lot of my own music. Other than that I am just trying to learn all that I can. Trying to figure out the world and people and things. It seems odd to "do" something "with" my life. That implies I'm outside of it somehow, using it as a tool. I'm IN it, living. Aren't you?

I’m really good at

Making people feel comfortable and at ease. I can also turn a phrase or crank out a tune fairly well, or so I'm told.

The first things people usually notice about me

Now that my hair is growing back out - it's definitely the eyes. They are gray, but blue if I'm wearing blue. They tend to do kind of an odd thing when photographed from a certain angle. They look like they have stars in them. It puzzles me too.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

No way I could pick any single favorites for these.
(a) Bukowski, Gene Wolfe, Tolkien, Ursula K LeGuin, Palahniuk (some), Tom Robbins, Kurt Vonnegut, His Dark Materials, etc.
(b) A Clockwork Orange, Lost in Translation, Amelie, Animal House
(c) late 60s - 70s rock, but my tastes are all over the map sometimes. Lately, I can't get enough of Gram Parsons. Sooooo good.

The six things I could never do without

books, a guitar, a close friend. That's only 3, but anything else I could live without if I HAD to.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Friends, life, the universe, philosophy, stuff I did when I was a kid, stuff I'd have done differently then if I knew what I know now. I also do a lot of programming-related problem solving and/or songwriting in my head. It's interesting to me how similar they are in terms of creativity. I have woken up in the middle of the night with either the perfect chorus to the song I'm working on as well as the perfect solution to a programming problem to solve.

On a typical Friday night I am

Playing music, seeing a band, having movie night, playing a game. It varies. I seem to have a lot of friends with weird schedules, so a lot of the "normal" going out nights I spend by myself while other folks are working. That means I end up going out on like...Tuesdays and Wednesdays. *shrug*

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

When not in the company of a lady friend, I sleep with a teddy bear whose name happens to be Ted. I've had him since I was 3.
