The Doctor

As you can see, I've reached and exceeded the half century mark. I'm still waiting for the big insight that supposed to come with age. Eh, maybe next year.
I was a Forestry major in college until circumstances forced me to go to work in a different field, so for the last 30 years I've been an industrial electrician. I'd like to think that I'm pretty good at it but I'm looking forward to the day I can give it up and do something more enjoyable and less demanding.
Unlike most Floridians, I don't care for weather over 75 degrees or theme parks. I'd rather put my head in a vise than go to Disney World. Give me a night in the woods or the beach on a cold winter day or seeing my favorite band anytime.
I think we're living in the most amazing time in history. The scientific and technological advancements made in my lifetime make me optimistic for the future. We've been to the moon and back for crying out loud. How cool is that?

Like a lot of guys, I'm a little set in my ways but always open for new possibilities. Still, I'd like to meet some new friends (or more than friends if it works out that way). Someone to laugh and act like an idiot with. I miss that. I also miss having long discussions about serious and inane subjects. Other than my daughters and the half-wits I work with, I really have no social contact at all. Oh, I talk to lots of people, but I don't really converse or exchange anything with them. Does that even make sense? I'm not complaining-that's just the way it is.

The Pasture

I'm going out to clean the pasture spring;

I'll only stop to rake the leaves away

(And wait to watch the water clear, I may):

I shan't be gone long.- You come too.

I'm going out to fetch the little calf

That's standing by the mother. It's so young,

It totters when she licks it with her tongue.

I shan't be gone long.- You come too.

Robert Frost

This really has nothing to do with my profile; I just like the poem.

I am upgradeable, opaque, and warm blooded
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm really enjoying my grown kids realization that I'm not as full of crap about EVERYTHING as they thought I was, though I'm probably still full of crap about somethings. Working, thinking about the future and trying to keep my sanity. So far,so good.

Dust Of Snow

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I rued.

Robert Frost

I'm always amazed at how life's little events interconnect with each other to form the big picture. God's choreographed dance.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
My job, being a peacemaker, fixing stuff, breaking stuff, fixing it again.
The first things people usually notice about me

My whimsical nature.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Ray Bradbury and Philip K. Dick are my favorite fiction writers and Dandelion Wine is my favorite book. I highly recommend it. Currently reading H.P. Lovecraft's collected works. Cthulhu lives! Big fan of David Mitchell.
I'll read anything- fiction, non-fiction, how-to manuals, the dictionary, Dr Seuss. I just like to read.

I watch a lot of TCM - probably too much. I'm kind of an classic movie nerd. The Searchers, Night of the Hunter, To Kill a Mockingbird, Casablanca and anything by Hitchcock. 2001- the book and the movie.

Glengarry Glenross, In America, The Station Agent, Ghostworld, American Beauty, the Evil Dead series. Clerks still makes me laugh.

Pink Floyd ,Porcupine Tree,Richard Shindell,Cry Cry Cry Jimmy Lafave, Moody Blues ( the older stuff- their new music is wretched) etc. Music is such a personal thing.Tool,Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young, Jethro Tull, The Decemberists, Alison Krauss, M83, Max Richter. Classical music helped me through a bad spell several years ago and I'm eternally grateful to it,if that's possible. Baroque and English composers.

Like all foods except cooked cauliflower-vile weed.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
For better or for worse, these are the "things" that have become so ingrained in my life I would have a hard time getting along without them:

Transportation, a steady income, some sort of communication device, Vans (comfortable shoes are priceless), air conditioning and clean socks.

These aren't really "things" in the general sense, but they're many, many times more important to me :

My kids, my dogs, hope, music, books, abstract thought, the end of the work week, a fire on a cool evening and the civilized, more genteel things of life.

"Dr. Chandra, will I dream?"
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Where I put my keys.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Going out or staying home with the girls (my dogs).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm a sucker for movies about dogs.

You don't mind a little dog hair
You believe that life isn't always "this or that" and "black or white"- mostly it's a little of both with lots of other colors thrown in.
