I'm enjoying this chapter in my life where I can do what I want , when I want with only my inner compass to censor my impluses somewhat. Happy to reach a point in my life where I'm less concerned with what others think and enjoying the freedom to explore new limits for myself. Seems that the more I learn, the more certain I am of how much there is yet to be discovered. Though I like myself just fine , I know there's still room for improvement but no such thing as (or need for) perfection. I prefer to be a constant work in progress rather than something ready to be hung in the museum. And I prefer having someone special to share that process.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm retired from a long career of traveling the world. It left me with lots of time on my hands and a hunger to see even more of the world. I work part-time now in real estate but enjoy finding volunteer work that feels good. I've been on non-profit boards, but prefer the hands on of one-on-one work with clients. Lately I've mentored low-income scholarship recipients, taught ESL at the Canal Alliance and work with Friends of the Library and TMMC.
I’m really good at
Meeting new people and learning their stories. As a veteran of more night flights than I care to remember, I found it a great way to pass the time and learn about new things. I'm also good at finding my way around in new surroundings. I love really long walks or bike rides and taking the road or path I've yet to explore. . . the "get lost" route is my preferred form of GPS.
The first things people usually notice about me
Depends on whether they're looking at the outside or utilizing their deeper senses. . . probably that I'm very approachable and easy to talk to.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Everything in books from biography to novels to history. Founding Brothers, Middlesex, Fugitive Pieces, Styron, Kingsolver, Doctorow,Gladwell. Movies that show character and nuance over spectacle. I still enjoy sitting in a darkened theater with a big screen yet love watching old favorites with a glass of wine, home made popcorn on the comfort of a cushy sofa. Classical, rock, R&B, jazz are staples in my collection as well as the sound track of my youth. . . deja vu through a song is a powerful thing. I seek out local music whenever I travel as a way to learn more about a culture and still get a thrill out of live venues.
The six things I could never do without
Though I try to never say never. . . friends & family, optimism, nature, animals, love, light, music, books. . . these choices seem to have typed themselves
I spend a lot of time thinking about
so many things . . .and too seldom nothing
On a typical Friday night I am
enjoying the a la carte menu of the moment
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I rue the loss of, and respect for privacy. We seem to feel proprietary about every aspect of the lives of others, most especially our public figures.
