My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Everything in its right place. (/usr/bin/env self)

I'm one of those weird east-coast-west-coast hybrids. Uniquely at home in San Francisco, yet so clearly a child of New York. I've spent plenty of intervening years elsewhere, though, and there's plenty I've picked up along the way.

I choose my words carefully.

I'm a radical empiricist, an idealist, and an evergreen companion. I'm in it for the adventure, for laughter, and for all of life's myriad delights.

I consume information constantly. I do my best to aware of my blind spots and work hard to patch them by reading or otherwise trying to improve myself. For me, self-actualization is a primary focus of life, though its ultimate result (enlightenment? happiness? peace?) remains unclear.

I spend a lot of time both thinking about what constitutes the good life and pursuing it.

I'm happy, both with my life and in general. Not a lot gets me down, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I have a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for here. Someone self-aware and comfortable with themselves. Someone who likes to learn, and isn't afraid of trying something new (or of showing that they're new to something). Someone ambitious, which is not to say that said ambition has to be purely professional. Someone who believes that the self is mutable (and that that's a good thing!). And, for all that is good in the world, someone kind. Kindness is underrated.

I have a soft spot for techies and artists, but if something about my profile speaks to you then you should say hello anyways. Life's short enough as it is.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I spent a few years working with energy; electricity, power, fuel. I now work full-time in the tech industry. I'm trying to start a hedge fund, although I've never worked in finance. I'm happy with my work, but it's not how I define myself.

I play a lot of pool (see the cue?). Other hobbies include archery, gardening, brewing beer, cooking, hiking, learning languages, and photography. I love to learn, and if you offer to teach me how to do something I can promise I will take you up on it.

I'm usually reading a few books at once. Ask me what I'm reading! Many extra points will go to you if we happen to be reading the same thing at once.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Being kind, I hope.

Being genuine.

Accepting people as they are; adventuring; cooking; getting lost; laughing; learning; loving; teaching; taking risks.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
You'd have to ask them. If I had to guess, it'd probably be either my assortment of strangely patterned socks, or my t-shirt of the day. Yes, I'm going with clothes on this one.

Oh, and I'm super into Adventure Time.

{Music}: Calexico, DJ Shadow (the old stuff, anyways) / Fleet Foxes / Fuck Buttons / Grizzly Bear / Massive Attack / Radiohead / Thievery Corporation ... {Food}: Chinese / Ethiopian / Mexican / Japanese

I also seriously love cheese. And wine! And whiskey!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Books
Internet
Tea
Games (probably the fastest way to my heart)
Whiskey
Let's be real, sex.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Motivation and empathy. Probability theory and human nature. Why some people impose order on their surroundings while others impose chaos. Industrial construction, illumination, and how lovely rust looks. Why one sees similar patterns of human behavior even across isolated communities. Electricity. How wonderful it is to have sight. The fragility of our mortal shells. The limited nature of language.

Kindness. Honesty.

Ambition. Interior aesthetic. The spirits of inanimate things.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
...it depends. I don't really like large crowds, so I tend not to hit the bars on the weekend - I also get a lot out of working on personal projects in what spare time I have. All the same, I like shooting pool and seeing friends when I can.

I don't really think of myself as an extrovert, but I value deep conversation greatly and eventually one has to go and meet new people to get enough of that.

I'm a habitual adventurer. I tend to disappear into the city by myself (rather, with my headphones as company) for hours just to meander through streets and wander the parks and hills. I love exploring and hiking, and just generally walking and watching the world around me.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm afraid of large bodies of water.
I have the same fear of missing out or failing to live up to my potential as everybody else.
I get anxious. You won't notice, but I'll tell you.
I can get frightened when home alone.

I used to worry about being alone - and on some intellectual level I still do, I suppose, but these days it doesn't bother me so much.

Hum, most of my private things are fears. I suppose there are embarrassing things that I've done or that I like -- if you really want to know, just ask.

I have only one actual secret, which I'll probably feel okay talking about in five or so years. Everything else about me is an open book.

I don't really like dancing. Rather, I like dancing by myself with big bulky headphones on looking like an absolute nerd, but you probably won't see those same smooth moves on display in public, at least for a while :P

ADVANCE NOTICE: I don't do poly. Sorry - it's just not how my mind is wired. I'm only putting this notice here because I've been in SF long enough to feel it's warranted.

You value empathy and kindness.
You're looking for an actual, human connection, and probably some sort of longer-term relationship.
You think life is worth the risk.

I promise to respond to any message that seems like you put an ounce of effort in. To be clear, that means you should probably write more than a single sentence. "Hey, cute stuff" doesn't leave me with a whole lot to go on. Though, if you think we'd get along and just want me to check out your profile to see if I agree, that's an option too.
