My self-summary
An introspective, creative, witty, intelligent, romantic gentleman...

I'm an adoring fan of music (from rock to reggae to experimental to psychedelic), books (science, philosophy, poetry, some fiction), and movies. I make music myself when I can, and I've been exploring my love for words and creative expression through poetry and photography. But a guy has to be active too, and for that I must skate! I have a killer, flexible job that affords me opportunities to get out of the house during the day to hook up with friends for coffee or skating, or maybe a group jaunt up the mountain for some snowboarding. Other times I'm keen on a morning hike in the woods before the fog has lifted from the trees, or breathing in the salty air as the sun dips below the horizon.

I have a challenging and interesting job. I work behind the scenes, pulling strings, weaving patterns in the air with my hands... helping make the Internet a safer place for all of us. And while doing this, I'm usually wearing pajamas and a hoodie, sipping coffee, and listening to music. At my house. That's my favorite part.

Regardless of how I ended up on my current career path, my passion is music, and that's the field where I obtained my degree. I've enjoyed myriad and diverse musical experiences... I've performed incredible music in concert halls from the humble to the grandiose, and on playing fields for tens of thousands of people; I've learned the craft of the recording studio and the disciplined process of massaging musical ideas into physical reality; I've experienced the pleasure of my music having touched humans from distant parts of the world I've never seen; and recently I had the privilege of contributing creatively to a record, as a peer, with one of my longtime heroes. But all of these things pale compared to the feeling of lazily caressing a guitar as I search for the perfect turn of phrase while my dreamgirl looks on... Well, I bet they do anyway... :)

One of the most interesting places I've been is China, where I spent two weeks a couple years ago exploring and journeying from South to North by train. I had been most excited to see the ancient landscape and famous sites, and while those were as amazing as I'd hoped, what really wowed me were the people. Some of the most vivid memories I have are of the personal interactions I had with people on the street, or on the train, or while dining or getting a foot massage. Always planning the next adventure! I have a dream of exploring Northern Europe, particularly Scandinavia, listening to languages, taking photos in places off the beaten path and composing music in my head; singing snippets of ditties into a voice recorder... and forgetting to turn it off, and later finding perfect bits and pieces of found sound and conversations to use in my recordings.

As my username implies, I unabashedly view the world with a bit of boyish wonder. There's something I love about all types of weather. I can't stop looking at the stars. I grew up on the coast and will always have a love affair with the sea. I'm making time to enjoy this amazing world, and I'm interested in making new friends, discovering new perspectives, and sharing experiences. We're all hurtling through the cosmos, right? So let's spend some time together laughing all the way!
What I’m doing with my life
I'm taking the time to learn about me, tasting life, enjoying being fully awake and perceptive of the amazing odds that I exist, and making decisions that count. I have a close-knit circle of guy friends who are on similar paths, and who are some of the best people I have ever known. I'm interested in finding new friends of the female variety who are also of like mind and quality. I'm not in a hurry to find "the one". Besides, she just might find me...

I'm a loving daddio of two kids (ages 10 and 15) whom I have half the time. When they're with me, I try to make everything I do be about them, because it goes, oh, so fast...!
I’m really good at
Being a positive source of energy for the people in my life; Coming up with better ways of doing things; Maintaining my optimism in the face of adversity; Cleaning up as I go; Being a single dad; Avoiding dangling preps in my writing (and I'm getting better at it in spoken conversation too -- I mostly try because I find it funny how stilted it sounds sometimes to speak English properly!)
The first things people usually notice about me
That I look younger than my age, or that I'm articulate. And one of my best friends recently told me that she always seems to come away from every interaction with me feeling... simply happier.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Favorite reading:
Some fave non-fiction reads: A Brief History of Time; The Elegant Universe; Genome: The Autobiography of a Species in 23 Chapters; The Character of Physical Law; Chaos; Complexity: The Emerging Science at the Edge of Order and Chaos; The Self-Aware Universe; Much Ado About Almost Nothing; TCP/IP Illustrated, Vol.1; The Beatles Anthology; The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions...
Some fave fiction authors: E.R. Eddison; Alexandre Dumas; Tolkien (esp. The Silmarillion (even more than LOTR!) and The History of Middle Earth Vols I-XII [I think I'm on Vol XI now -- I starting reading these in college...heavy analytical reading!]); William Gibson; Stephen Donaldson; Frank Herbert; Isaac Asimov...
Reading poetry now and then too (though I prefer writing it over reading it), but I won't list any poets here. I'd feel like a poseur since I'm still finding whom I like... OK, Frost and Keats stick out...
I recently finished reading aloud the Lord of the Rings and His Dark Materials to my youngest, and we're working our way through the Harry Potter series now.

Favorite music:
My music preferences seem to fall into two buckets: electronic (a rather useless descriptor, actually) and everything else. But let's start with that, and see what's on my iPod at the moment (listed as they appear as I scroll, and added onto as other mainstays occur to me)... [Bands in bold almost never leave my iPod (oops -- just noticed the OKC app doesn't support bold type)]...

Favorite food:
I generally eat healthily... I looooooooooooove Thai food... anything with curry... is coconut milk in food not the most amazing thing ever?? Toshi's Ramen... mmmmm.... I grill some pretty swell steaks and marinated chicken... I dig Mexican food, but usually in the burrito form, not sure why... I like Italian food, but I don't often seek it out (I just noticed that as I write this)... And I don't care what food it is -- red wine makes everything better! As for beer, I'll go in for ale now and then, but generally I favor darker and thicker (porters being my starting point when ordering).
