I am frank, earnest, and adalbert.

My Self-Summary

I feel like an egomaniac writing about myself, and I don't like to do it.

with that said, I'll keep this both brief and stolen from my myspace page: I go to college in Irvine but I'm not from Irvine, I'm from a semi-rural working class community in the desert. I used to think of myself as an anarchist who was also interested in fighting racism and fighting sexism, but now I realize that being an anarchist _necessarily_ means fighting racism, fighting classism, fighting patriarchy, fighting militarism, fighting heteronormativity, fighting Capitalism*; that they're all part of the same thing. now, on top of that I'm also a poet, a (reluctant) political science major**, a lazy blogger, a pissy cultural critic, and an unpretentious vaguely-creative-type.

also, I'm not looking to date anyone currently, but I'm always in the market to make new friends.

*apparently it doesn't mean fighting the impulse to describe all conflicts in a language of physical violence.
**that is, a poli sci major and women's studies minor at UCI, and my plan is to transition to a much nicer grad school and a much more interesting field of study than poli sci.

What I’m doing with my life

I go to school, I do research, I read and write a lot, I play some guitars and ukulele in a one-man folkpunk band, I write a blog and I've had poetry published in a nothing publication, I'm a founding member of UCI's only sketch comedy troupe, and I go to shows and movies when the mood strikes me. All in all, it's intellectually rigorous and physically laid-back.

I’m really good at

yelling (articulate) things at the tv, cuddling, buying birthday presents, writing little radical essays, and playing folkpunk songs on my ukulele, and, oddly enough, explaining feminist theory and praxis in ways that make sense to guys and ladies who think feminist movement is stupid or bad or outdated or "not for them."

The first things people usually notice about me

is that, not unlike a snail, I have a shell on my back twice the size of my body.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I love books, I especially love getting more books... my favorite writers are bukowski and chomsky. Some of my other favorites include: james baldwin, angela davis, kerouac, orwell, lyotard, coetzee, wendy brown, sexton, camus, said, mike davis, matt bernstein sycamore, richard wright, fante, toni morrison, von humboldt, foucault, emma goldman, de cleyre, judith butler, berkman, debord, bulgakov, loretta j. ross, bell hooks, dan chiasson (is okay), mann... and a lot of anarchists and 20th century writers.

I think movies are fine, but I'm bad at listing them.

I listen to a lot of music. right now I'm really into the lawrence arms, off with their heads, defiance ohio, sundowner, the good life, bridge and tunnel, stars, tom waits, the mountain goats, the soviettes, desaparacidos, tim fite, cursive, osker, sleater-kinney, wolf parade, billy bragg, the coup, buck 65, the broadways, neko case, against me!, jolie holland, dillinger four, ted leo + rx, doomtree, solillaquists of sound, the thermals, world/inferno friendship society, hot water music, bike for three!, refused, los campesinos!, the weakerthans, and I just fell in love with latterman...

I don't eat very healthy, but I cook it myself, so there's that.

The six things I could never do without

shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, and tits. (whoopsy, seven things.)

how about six things I could definitely do without? that list would include: headwinds, being talked down to, people who don't know how dull their ideas are, bookstores that seperate african-american literature from the rest of the literature, math requirements, and using 'just' too often while I'm writing.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

these days I'm working on a research piece dealing with american politics, ideology, and antiblackness and antiradicalism; several areas of queer studies, including black queer studies and homonormativity; I'm usually reading a few books at once, but I'm setting my laserbeam focus on my research right now, so I'm a mess of late nights and caffeine; and... I'm not sure what else. (Whoops, finished that research project and I'm now in the beginning stages of a thesis project on a similar topic. Go team!)

You ever notice that people who claim to care about "proper grammar" usually limit their concern to how one spells common words? You know, dangling modifiers are understandable, but if you spell something phonetically there'll be heck to pay!

On a typical Friday night I am

waiting for Eminem to respond to my letters and getting REAL MAD at my baby-momma...

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I almost never ride an elevator alone without dancing from door-close to door-open.

I think love is a lot like jesus. At best, it's on okay idea that gets dumber the more you believe in it. I care too much about passion and romance and fondness and caring for someone to ruin it with love.

You should message me if

I pique your interest, or pique your nose...

or, better yet, if you like to read but don't like reading serial novels, if you're an artist or creative type and you've got fire in your guts for your art, if you don't mind being asked to read/critique things, if you make yourself laugh, if you're argumentative and uppity, if you don't write in obtuse thesaurus words, or if anything on here seemed clever or funny or good to you.
