I am bright, anachronistic, and a word nerd.

My Self-Summary

I'm terrible at these introductions, but I think everyone says that. I'm interested in local music, all things French, and books. Some of my favorite authors are Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Haruki Murakami, Neil Gaiman, and Alexander McCall Smith.

What I’m doing with my life

I recently got back from a three-month stint teaching English at an immersion camp in France. At the moment, I'm not sure what to do next, but would love to go back to France at the earliest opportunity.

I'm writing a bit and wanderlusting a ton.

I'm taking up the oboe again.

I’m really good at

I don't know what I'm REALLY good at, but I've been complimented on my acting abilities, and I'm not that bad at making people laugh.

(NB: Now that I've looked around on this site, I see that many people think they are good at making people laugh. Maybe I just make myself laugh. I do laugh at a lot of things that maybe aren't so funny.)

The first things people usually notice about me

My laugh is loud and distinct, I hear. As I understand it, you either love it or you hate it. I don't know what's so remarkable about it.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I guess I talked about books earlier. My favorite movies, even if they aren't amazing in every other respect, have a very strong auditory atmosphere - Lost In Translation, Amélie, The Darjeeling Limited, and the like. My musical taste is all over the place, but I love the Beatles more than anything. Sorry if that sounds unoriginal, but they suit all my moods. I also never tire of Andrew Bird, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, The Clash, Sufjan Stevens and Bob Marley. As for food, I'm a recently converted vegetarian who has no interest whatsoever in mushrooms. Sometimes it's hard to take me anywhere.

Related to music: listening to a lot of the Philadelphia Orchestra, as directed by Eugene Ormandy, these days. Sibelius, mostly.

The six things I could never do without

Books
Knitting
Quiet streets
My bike
Dogs
Oil pastels
Now in French
Les livres
Le tricot
Les rues silencieuses
Mon velo
Les chiens
Les pastels l'huile

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Too many things in labyrinthine and overwhelming ways. That's why I knit, actually.

On a typical Friday night I am

I actually don't know what a typical Friday night is for me anymore, which might be a good thing.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

...wouldn't be private at all. I don't post my deeper secrets on the internet.

(Not entirely true. That's what blogs are for.)

You should message me if

You want to. Don't message me if you don't want to - doesn't that go without saying?
