Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Friendly dork. Introvert but not shy. Fat and happy about it.
Unambitious. Distracted by bright shiny things, technology and
gimmicks and novelty, while also aiming for a simple, decluttered
life. Fannish, preferring the fun squee side of fandom to the angry
I'm a single parent of a teenage daughter who is an awesome, quirky
and fun person. We have two ridiculous dogs.
I'd like to pull up stumps and wander the world for a few years.
Not yet -- my daughter needs me to be in one place right now.
One day I'll have a small house (maybe a tiny house) on a block
with enough space for fruit trees, chickens, lots of vegetables and
maybe a goat. If I could score a larger block of land there would
also be alpacas, but they're not essential. There will be a studio
space for working on creative projects like fibre arts, sculpture,
painting and ceramics. There will be water nearby--the sea, a river
or a lake.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I write stuff for a living. I'm a technical writer, information
architect, and knowledge manager. Sometimes I want to chuck it all
in and other days I love my work passionately.
I love learning new things and might get a little obsessed with the
new thing for a few weeks or months, then it gets thrown over for
the next new thing. Currently it's drawing and painting. Last year
it was bellydancing (but then the bellydancing teacher moved away)
and watching roller-derby. Next obsession is anyone's guess.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Knitting, technical writing, learning things.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm fat and fabulous. (Some days I feel more fabulous than others.)
My hair is very short. I'm friendly and I smile a lot. People
generally feel comfortable and relaxed around me. I have coloured
stars tattooed on my right forearm.

The favourite things grabbing my attention and love right now are
usually on my tumblr: verylisa.tumblr.com
Books: I'll latch onto a topic and read a pile of non-fiction books
about it for a while, then move on to the next topic. Currently
reading lots of books about sustainable tiny homes, survival in
extreme situations, fat-related issues, drawing and painting,
simple living, and Buddhism. Ask me next month and it will be
something else. Favourite authors include Terry Pratchett, LM
Montgomery, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Suzanne Collins, Patrick
O'Brian, PG Wodehouse, Mark Twain. I'm also reading a lot of Marvel
comics lately, especially the X books.
Movies: Ridiculous disaster movies like 2012 and The Day After
Tomorrow. Most fantasy and sci-fi stuff. Anything with hobbits
and/or giant robots. Movies based on Marvel universe comics.
Shows: Doctor Who, RuPaul's Drag Race, most things by Joss Whedon
and/or Steven Moffat and/or Simon Pegg & Nick Frost, Better Off
Ted, The IT Crowd, Xena Warrior Princess ... generally things that
are dorky and fun and sometimes a bit dark.
Music: All genres. Favourite artists include Jonathan Coulton,
Winnie Coopers, Stan Rogers, Candye Kane, Billy Bragg, Fleetwood
Mac, Gaelic Storm.
Food: I don't much like cooking, so my favourite meal is one that
someone else cooks for me. If pancakes were a nutritionally
complete food I might be tempted to eat them at every meal.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Tiny homes. Living simply and wholeheartedly. Hobbits and giant
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

I have an anxiety disorder that was diagnosed more than ten years
ago. It took 2 or 3 years of therapy to learn to manage it and I
may be on meds for the rest of my life. It doesn't really get in
the way of anything any more ... it's just something I need to be
aware of and manage appropriately. Meditation and breathing
exercises are good. So is being aware of my limits, and working

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You're open to the possibility of long-term relationship and are
not simply looking for new friends or a casual hook-up.
(Casual sex can be lots of fun -- it's just not what I'm after
right now. This doesn't mean I'm looking for instant commitment, or
any kind of commitment really. Just that if there are things that
you know up-front would preclude a long-term relationship, I'd
rather know as soon as possible.)
You don't use the phrase 'politically correct' as an insult.
You think I seem to be hot and fabulous.
You think you're both hot and fabulous, or are willing to believe
me if I say that you are.
You are a bit ridiculous and don't take yourself too seriously.
