My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
That is an odd phrase "self-summary", I wouldn't summarize myself at all. Actually, I would expound on myself, but I find that really hard to do in writing. Besides, it's also obnoxiously self-centered.

I am an urban homesteader, creating an edible landscape at my east Austin home. I have lived in Austin for the last 17 years - 15 if those in the same house. I am a landlord. It has been a lot of fun and is one of the things that inspired me to try okcupid - the other inspiration was turning 40! I grinned ear-to-ear all day long on my birthday. I remember my mom and dad and all my aunts and uncles turning 40 - it seemed so momentous at the time. Thinking of myself as reaching that same milestone just seems like a big joke!

I am a mom to 2 children, a 15 year old son and 9 year old daughter. We have our ups and downs. I happen to be the strongest personality in the house, so granted "our" ups and downs are usually mine.

I come over much better in person, so if you would like to meet send me a message and we can talk. Don't be discouraged if you don't see a message back right away. My work is really busy right now and I like to think about my responses - I'm not so good at off-the-cuff writing.

I enjoy being physical. Right now that is confined to yoga, but I used to play volleyball, tennis and raquetball and would love to find someone to play with.

I love to have a great conversation over coffee, except that I just gave up coffee, but I drink chai instead. I try to get to the why of everything. I find people fascinating and I enjoy trying to understand where they are coming from and how they came by their opinions.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Well, as a mom, a big part of my life so far has been spent raising children. That job gets less involved as kids get older though and it becomes more of a mentor relationship.

I volunteer with a local alternative currency program. I have joined Urban Patchwork as part of their new South Austin Farm project. I am creating a program that gives kids opportunities that don't seem to exist in schools anymore - we do a lot of practical, hands-on and creative activities geared toward team-building and cooperation.

I have a goal to get out more and enjoy more of Austin's night life.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm really good at making people uncomfortable and uncertain. It's a gift. If you thought you were certain, spend 15 minutes with me and you will be rethinking what you had for breakfast. I like creating doubt - I think certainty is the root of all evil.

I don't know. I'm really good at making things work, figuring out how to do stuff, fix things, make things, I can sew. I like to drive - can't swear that I'm really good at it.

The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I've got doing without down to a fine art. If you have never gone without something you should try it sometime - Lent is here, you could start now!
Yoga keeps me sane and breathing.
Gardening keeps me grounded and in touch with the earth. (My apple tree is already blooming - in February! Is that normal?)
My kids keep me ambitious and loving. They also remind me to have fun and not take things too seriously.
Books - I read compulsively, not sure what I would do without a book.
Time alone recharges me and gives me energy to be out in the world.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I spend a lot of time thinking.

The current education sysytem and my dissatisfaction with it is something that I discuss with friends - most people don't want to hear it.

Fiat money and the futility of earning pretend money to pay my pretend bills occupies my thoughts quite a bit. The Future of Money is a great book, if you are curious how we came to be using paper to pay for real things like shelter and food.

I think about how to grow more food on my small piece of the earth - and how to collect the water to sustain it.

I make my own cleaning products and laundry soap. I wonder a lot why we use so much poison to do so many different tasks.

I really wonder how meeting online became the norm and how I missed the boat on that.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Ok, come on, I am on OkCupid so that I can change the answer to this question. Currently, I am either watching a movie with my kids or having wine in my backyard with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

The most private thing I am willing to admit in public to complete strangers who I am trying to present myself to in a positive light?
Hmm. Nope, can't think of anything off hand.
