My self-summary
I'm looking for my person. I am a creative, kind, sensitive, generous, goofy, extremely independent woman ready to share my life with the right guy.

I was born and raised in the East Bay and have lived here all my life except for three years at UCI (B.A. in Anthropology) and one amazing year at The University of Auckland in New Zealand. I also have a degree in fashion design from FIDM. I do custom work but mostly make clothes for myself and have a website/blog all about it. I was raised bilingual in French, went to the East Bay French American School through middle school and I still speak it with my mom and anybody I can.

I am an animal lover and have been a vegetarian for over 13 years now (though you don't need to be). I have two cats so a cat alergy is a deal breaker, sorry!

I love being outside and hike as often as I can. I enjoy being fit and healthy and have gotten into running in the last few years (I run lake Merritt 2 or 3 times a week and go for a trail run up and Redwood Regional Park on the weekends). I grew up camping and love sleeping outside along with hiking/backpacking and swimming in lakes and rivers or the ocean. I have my own gear and I'm always ready to go. I've even gone on two solo backpacking trips and am planning a few more.

You: not allergic to cats, not religious, don't have a problem making plans, are ready for a relationship and know what you want.
What I’m doing with my life
After years of wondering why I was so miserable working in an office, I made the switch to being a nanny I adore babies, and specialize in the first two years. For me it doesn't really even feel like work. I get paid to go hiking and have time to do whatever I want while the babies are sleeping, its kind of perfect for me. I have also been doing it for long enough and am great enough at my job that I get paid well for what I do.

I am also a fashion designer. I have the occasional commission, but mostly make clothes for myself and post about the pieces on my website. Someday I might like to have my own line of clothes, but for right now I really like the idea of a custom one of a kind pieces.

I've got my shit pretty much so together, enough to be comfortable with my life. Hope you do too.
I’m really good at
I'm actually really handy and grew up around power tools.

I can and do drive a stick shift. I learned on one in the Berkeley hills and can basically drive anything now. (Edit: my beloved stick shift died and I couldn't find an appropriate replacement so I am currently driving an automatic. Boo)

I love cooking and baking.

I don't know if I'm great at it, but I love gardening. I live in a cottage with an awesome backyard and I built a pretty big veggie garden. Looking forward to spring.

Obviously I can sew and make my own clothes.

I'm a great dancer, starting with ballet at 7 and then basically you name it I've probably done it. I don't dance nearly as much or as seriously anymore but it will be in my blood forever.
The first things people usually notice about me
Most people tell me my eyes, my smile, or more recently my hair but my favorite has to be the homeless guy in Oakland telling me I had sexy feet.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
So so so many. I'm a total nerd. I read a ton and don't discriminate. It took me a long time to get into reading as a kid and so if something grabs my attention, I read it.
I'm more of just a book person than author person but a few favorite authors are Christopher Moore, Hugh Howey, Barbara Kingsolver, J.K. Rowling...

I listen to audiobooks when I'm running or out walking with my charge. I have listened to a lot, but my favorites have been comics reading their own work, like Amy Poehler, David Sedaris, Chelsea Handler, Mindy Kaling etc. The Martian and The Girl On The Train were also favorites.

Favorite tv shows: Orphan Black, Orange Is The New Black, House of Cards, STNG, Battlestar Galactica, Twin Peaks, Parks and Rec, the Office, Parenthood, Firefly, Gray's Anatomy, Downton Abbey, Call the Midwife, The United States of Tara, Lost Girl, Being Human, Friday Night Lights...

Favorite movies:
Old ones- The Abyss (Special Edition), A League of Their Own, Forrest Gump, Hook, Big, The Princess Bride, Dirty Dancing...
New ones- Mad Max: fury road might be the best movie I have ever seen

When it comes to food being a vegetarian obviously means that there are some limitations for me, but I love all kinds. Mexican, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Ethiopian, you name it. Just not spicy sadly, I am a total wuss. My tolerance is getting better I just really don't enjoy it.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Recently it's been how unjust our justice system is. But then I have to take a break because I get too angry.
Normally it's how to fix or cover the one tattoo I'm not thrilled with and what to get next...some day.
Where I would like to go backpacking next.
What dress/skirt/whatever I want to make next.
Food.
On a typical Friday night I am
No typical Friday night. I might be working late, meeting friends for happy hour, having a quiet night at home, driving up to Inverness for the weekend...
You should message me if
You are not allergic to cats.
You're looking for relationship.
You're local.
You want to!

****my username was chosen years ago with no knowledge of the Kathleen Turner link. She's great and all, but I'm not some big fan! Just an avid reader and mystery fan.
