I am smart, wry, and not a seal.

My Self-Summary

I like stuff. I like liking stuff. I enjoy soccer to a serious degree (and yes, I know it's football, but I've learned not to be a jerk about it in mixed company), music, being frivolous about serious things, and being serious about frivolous things. I like going to the design section of art museums, but I don't know any names. I need someone to take me to movies.

My teams are Arsenal, Hertha BSC, and of course, the Seattle Sounders FC. I think Ukraine always has the best Eurovision entries. My prized possessions are my signed Elvis Costello and Bauhaus records.

What I’m doing with my life

Currently, working in marketing at a tea company. But I'm hoping to go back to school soon. It's been long enough.

When I grow up, I'd like to be Jonathan Wilson.

I’m really good at

Writing, I think, or maybe bluffing.

The first things people usually notice about me

My glasses. They're shaped like wings and have rhinestones.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I like books on European history and anthropology books about soccer. I also like Michael Chabon. I feel less well read than I should be, but every time I try to rectify the situation I get distracted by history books.

I listen to lots of music, all the time, but according to my last.fm profile I listen to the Magnetic Fields, ABBA, and the Pet Shop Boys the most. (I also love Billy Bragg, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, New Order, the Cure, David Bowie, Marc Almond, Einstürzende Neubauten, early-80s post-punk, modern electro, and a myriad of other things.) Lately I've been rediscovering pop music. I think I've been going in reverse, from the more abrasive things I listened to in high school to the full-on pop I enjoy right now.

I like food a lot and will try anything once. I try to go to the farmer's market every week and I'm getting better at cooking, but I really like checking out restaurants (so far, Lark is my favorite). As far as movies...well, I don't end up seeing a lot of movies. I could use someone to help me out with that. But I love Pan's Labyrinth, Pedro Almodovar, and any good comedy.

The six things I could never do without

My iPod, my laptop, coffee, Fox Soccer Channel or another source of the European football leagues, hard cider, the Eurovision Song Contest.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Permutations of nationalism, mix CDs, soccer, bus routes, how listening to the Pet Shop Boys is like reading short stories, and how I can sleep in just a little bit longer in the mornings.

On a typical Friday night I am

I try not to miss the Soup, no matter what I'm doing.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

My apartment is usually a mess. It is right now, even, and here I am doing this instead of cleaning it.

You should message me if

You want to talk about soccer, popular culture, and anything in between. Also, if you know what the shift key is for.
