I don't know how to describe myself but I'll go ahead and say 1) I am mostly introverted. That doesn't mean shy or unfriendly, because I am neither of those. It means I'm not afraid to spend time alone and even like it. 2) I am curious about everything. I love learning new things and am always doing just that. Life would be nothing if the world were not full of interesting new things to explore and learn about. 3) I am empathic towards people. I've been told I have a kind nature. 4) And speaking of nature, I just love it! The colors, the change from season to season. 5) I'm probably a pagan.

I got a B.A. in Russian from UNC and then studied for a year at Goettingen University in Germany. I studied Japanese for one job. am what they call an autodidact (sounds like some sort of beetle, doesn't it?) and am always learning something. Last year it was figure drawing. This year it's yoga. Well, I never get bored!

As for work, I taught English as a second language both in Europe and here, worked as a translator for EPA and later Naval Intelligence. I was busily self-employed as a translator for many years. I'm retired at the moment but miss translating so I'm really thinking hard about getting back to freelance work.

AT the moment, learning yoga. Rediscovering Schubert, and revisiting the Beethoven sonatas, all 32 of them!

Foreign languages (I know several)

I use a lot of big words (just joking!). People seem to notice I make eye contact and really listen. I've also been told I'm friendly, easy to talk to.

I read a LOT, a lot of history, a lot of different novels (mostly sci-fi lately), a lot of science. Movies -- I really loved HBO ROme and Showtime Dexter. I don't watch TV. Music, mostly classical and 20th century composers. Really, I have a passion about music and it's close to being a religion. I also have a great love of science (mostly physics, cosmology, astronomy) and history. Food -- I tend to like spicier food like curry or Thai food but I also love German and Polish food. Generally, I love to eat good food -- I can't believe I'm not fat!

Oxygen, books, internet, music, my friends, exercise, time to myself to think and daydream

I think about so many things, I can't name one. But I like to think. It is a pleasurable sensation, often exhilirating.

Why would I talk about that here?

I want to meet a woman, someone to explore life with, who can give and receive affection and warmth. I like smart, free-thinking women with a sense of humor.
