I am funny, intelligent, and occasionally awkward.

My Self-Summary

I'm a grad student currently working on a degree in musicology and have recently become a highly skilled procrastinator.

I can be painfully shy at times and it can take me a little while to start talking. At other times, I'm afraid that I talk a little too much -- awkward silences make me ramble.

What I’m doing with my life

Writing a dissertation, surviving on a grad student stipend, editing/entering metadata into a digital repository (I now know a whole lot about nineteenth-century French lithographs. Probably more than I need to know), reading as much as I can, testing out new recipes, knitting gifts for friends, playing as much music as possible, trying to increase the mileage of my daily run, going to academic conferences.

I’m really good at

Making people laugh (intentionally), throwing dinner parties, playing music, worrying, knitting socks, long distance drives, helping friends move, photocopying, making chocolate chip pecan pie, walking multiple greyhounds at once (unfortunately, I don't have any of my own just yet, but my parents do).

The first things people usually notice about me

My brightly colored sneakers

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

A quick sampling of favorite books: The Blue Flower, Atonement, High Fidelity, His Dark Materials Trilogy, Fortress of Solitude, Possession

Music: Haydn, Mozart, Built to Spill, Pavement, Radiohead, Violent Femmes, Debussy, Du Fay, Beck, Belle and Sebastian, The Dirty Projectors. I've recently discovered Grizzly Bear -- I'm a little out of the loop.

Movies: Amadeus, Eternal Sunshine, Donnie Darko, The Science of Sleep

I do like food. A lot.

The six things I could never do without

family, friends, pets, music, computer, books

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I can't snap my fingers. Many have tried to teach me and they've all failed.
