I'm in Athens for grad school. Currently looking for things to do in the area outside of grading papers & doing my homework.

Kind of a nerd. Kind of into fitness. Kind of a big deal.

I like animals, but currently do not have any pets. I enjoy drinking beer much more than wine or hard liquor, but I may be persuaded to indulge in the latter two on occasion.

I'm a recovering snob who's also recovering from despising the snobbishness in others. I'm very interested in religion--including your own and your thoughts on it--but I subscribe to no set of beliefs other than intentional noncommittal.

I like languages, but I prefer reading to speaking though--oddly--I prefer speaking to writing.

I dislike pigeonholing myself into political categories, but for the sake of not seeming like I consider myself so original as to be immune to categorization (heaven forfend), I'll tell you that my views are usually described as to the left of Gandhi.

I'm pretty certain I can't actually do anything with my life.

Subtle forces beyond my control (dryads, for example--and whatever things are being described rather provisionally by notations made up by physicists and biologists space fairies?) are doing things with my life.

Also, graduate school.

Learning the grammar of languages.

Wishing I were really good at singing, but making up for it by being fearless in flaunting my mediocrity.

Clearly it's the strong & assured poise of the alpha male.

Or my shaved head.

Radiohead, Andrew Bird, David Bowie, Beatles,Tom Waits. I think these are the only constants.

I mostly just watch the Venture Brothers and Bored to Death on the tube right now.

Currently I'm really into novels by Mishima Yukio, Flaubert, and James Joyce, French symbolist poetry by the likes of Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Mallarme, and Verlaine, and the English poets Ezra Pound, T.S. Eliot, and Wallace Stevens.

As far as food is concerned, I'm pretty addicted to Thai, Lebanese Indian, and Japanese food. I've been a vegetarian for a while now, so there's that.

1) The written word.
2) Curiosity
3) My family
4) A computer with a functioning DSL/ethernet connection.
5) Indian & Thai food (I seriously go nuts if I go for too long without getting my saag paneer or gang garee fix).
6) Music! It plays in my head constantly, so there's really no chance of my ever having to go without it (barring an unfortunate accident involving a blunt object and my skull).

Latin & Greek lately. Grad school has me in its clutches.

Apparently there is no middle ground between grading papers and talking to the homeless in a drunken stupor at 3 am.
