I am polygonal, unexceptionable, and likely doomed.

My Self-Summary

Well, I'm awesome. I'm a wannabe linguist and/or teacher of Classics (i.e., Latin & Greek) who's currently stuck in SW Michigan. I would like to meet some cool people to hang out with in the Berrien County area. I'd especially like to meet an intelligent, lively young lady with whom I could share some drinks, conversation, and/or crazy adventures.

I like beer. A LOT. Microbrews & beer imported from Germany make me especially happy.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm pretty certain I can't actually do anything with my life.

Subtle forces beyond my control (dryads, for example--and whatever things are being described rather provisionally by notations made up by physicists and biologists [space faeries?]) are doing things with my life.

I’m really good at

Learning the grammar of languages.

Wishing I were really good at singing, but making up for it by being fearless in flaunting my mediocrity.

The first things people usually notice about me

Probably that I'm short. It used to be my long hair, but now that I've shaved my head (it makes me more aerodynamic) for the summer, I'm going to assume that my glabrous cranium is probably the thing that people notice after my diminutive size.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Radiohead, Andrew Bird, David Bowie, Beatles, Xiu Xiu, Tom Waits. I think these are the only constants.

Currently digging Dexter, Curb your Enthusiasm, and Bored to Death on teevee.

It's curious that it's taken me so long to list my favorite books on here--probably because they change rather frequently--but currently I'm really into novels by Mishima Yukio, Flaubert, and James Joyce, French symbolist poetry by the likes of Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Mallarme, and Verlaine, and the English poets Ezra Pound, T.S. Eliot, and Wallace Stevens.

As far as food is concerned, I'm pretty addicted to Thai, Lebanese Indian, and Japanese food, but I also love anything fried and/or full of tasty, buttery calories (i.e, bar food).

The six things I could never do without

1) The written word.
2) Curiosity
3) My family
4) A computer with a functioning DSL/ethernet connection.
5) Indian & Thai food (I seriously go nuts if I go for too long without getting my saag paneer or gang garee fix).
6) Music! It plays in my head constantly, so there's really no chance of my ever having to go without it (barring an unfortunate accident involving a blunt object and my skull).

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Language stuff, whether I'm doing what I want, interpersonal relationships, etymology (under the rubric of language stuff, I know), art, chord progressions, religion & philosophy.

On a typical Friday night I am

In SPACE.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I like girls with shaved heads.

-You want to teach me a language I don't already know.

-You want to speak (actually speak!) in Latin.

-You want to converse about books/literature/poetry or some aspect of linguistics.
