I'm travelling in America right now, back to New Zealand in a couple weeks.

I edit television programs for a living. I play drums in a band, directed a feature film that is finishing up post-production, and recently started DJing world funk music. I love to travel, read, watch films, listen to music, go on adventures.

doing this voice that's sort of halfway between motivational speaker and used-car salesman. You'd be surprised at how infrequently this comes in handy. Or maybe you wouldn't.

Some people said it was that my beard color (red) doesn't match my hair color (brown), but I just mentioned this to a friend, who stared for a bit, and then said, "huh, you're right!". Maybe the glasses? Or the American accent. (Been living here since 2004.)

books: I've been reading a lot of neuroscience stuff lately. Generally love modern literature: Richard Powers, Ben Marcus, David Mitchell. Last book I read that I loved - Don Carpenter, HARD RAIN FALLING.

movies: MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO, PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, LADY TERMINATOR. And a billion more.

music: I grew up on indie rock/punk: Superchunk, Fugazi, Dismemberment Plan, Mountain Goats. Of late I've been listening to lots of international 70s dance music - Nigerian disco funk, Ghanaian highlife, Peruvian cumbia, lots of stuff that sounds pretentious to talk about but is awesome fun to listen to. And John Coltrane, Gillian Welch, Dirty Three, Explosions in the Sky ... this could go on for a very long time.

food: Mexican.
