My Self-Summary

Hello to all. I'm a cerebral, kind, and active guy and a relative newcomer (August 08) to Buffalo. I moved here to go to law school, which is what I'm doing now. I love it, but it's easy to allow it to take over a lot of your world. As a result, most of the people I know now in Buffalo are law students, and some of them are great friends, but it's really nice to have people in my life whose passions and day-to-day lives extend beyond case law and law student bar nights (did you know there's one every week?). So I'm using this site as a way to meet fun, interesting, big-hearted people outside of my narrow academic community.

I'm big on games (the card and board variety, not the "don't call for 10 days" variety), outdoor activities, running, recreational sports (I can't get enough racketball), reading and movies. I also enjoy the occasional glass of beer or wine at the end of the day, though I tend to drink less during the school year. I'm also a fan of wordplay, as seen above. It would be best if you also appreciate a fun turn of phrase, and still pretty good if you can at least tolerate this trait.

I also have a long, varied history of community/national service, which I'm trying to continue here in Buffalo. I'm not going to continue talking about it here though, or this thing's gonna start looking like a resume.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm currently a law student at UB. My primary legal interest is environmental law, and I plan to focus on legal protections for natural resources. Pretty exciting, right?

Like I said, I'm also trying to branch out socially and otherwise outside the law school, and into the community. I go to local shows (I love Nietzsche's) and book readings (shout-out to Talking Leaves too) and various talks.

My other big project that's in the works right now is that I'm looking to buy and fix up a foreclosed house in Buffalo with some friends. It's becoming more of a long-term goal than it had been - we're hoping to get a place that's right for us at the city auction in October - wish me luck!

I’m really good at

Seeing the other side, writing, returning your witty repartee, parallel parking 15 passenger vans, digging in the dirt, felling a tree, unclogging a toilet with a plunger (you try living with a group of 12 people and NOT getting good at that), putting stuff down and forgetting it, making others laugh, and making myself laugh.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm tall and bearded and friendly, and have expressive eyes.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I love these things, so in the interest of time this list will be very incomplete.

Books: Ecotopia, Heart of Darkness, Dracula, the books of Issac Asimov, H.L Heinlein, Michel Foucault, and Dr. Seuss, and the poetry of Robert Service.

Movies: Airplane, Pulp Fiction, Baseketball, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Waking Life, City of God, Labyrinth, Wedding Crashers, Clerks, Donnie Darko, The Muppet Movie, Casablanca, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Folk, Jam bands, Punk, Rock of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, Bluegrass, and Swing.

Food: I love food. Almost all of it. I try to keep away from overly processed stuff, because the real thing's way better.

The six things I could never do without

I dunno. I'm too much of a literalist for this question. Really, I'm happy living very simply. I guess, other than the bear necessities, I'd like to have a library nearby. And some paper and some pens or pencils. And yes, I mean the bear necessities. Only the stuff that bears need.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

My classes, the future of Buffalo, the U.S. and the world at large, friends and family, my daily choices.

On a typical Friday night I am

sometimes out, sometimes in.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I've already admitted to liking science fiction.

You should message me if

You've read my whole profile, right? There's no harm in saying hi.

But just to be clear, I am looking for real-life friendships and dating. If you just wanna say hi, that's cool, but I am not interested in forming sustained, online-chatting relationships.
