My self-summary
Have you ever read something so beautiful, so perfect and earth-shaking that your perception of the world changed?

That's what I want to do with my life. I want to create written truth so splendid that it moves you to action, changes the course of history and ignites the imagination.

To that end, I need to ask questions and learn everything I can. We're only here for so long, so we might as well make the most of it.

I want to leave this life with some satisfaction that I found out all I could about it, and that I lived to the fullest extent possible.

Some of the best moments of my life have been when I was in a control room at the several news stations I've worked at election night, the night of extreme severe weather or the day after a momentous event.

The knowledge that I was doing something that truly made a difference in peoples' lives is a feeling that is incredibly hard to replicate in daily life.

But that's what I want most out of life; to know that what I create is meaningful, worthwhile and will hopefully move you.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm web editor at a local TV station. Basically, I coordinate our web coverage on all our platforms: Internet, social and mobile. That means I have to coordinate with reporters, producers and photogs to gather all the info and repurpose it for all of you to use.

Before the web gig, I used to be a TV news producer and before that I was a newspaper/magazine editor/writer.

I'd like to get back to academia at some point and start teaching. I've found that I'm the most truthful to myself and what I believe in when I'm teaching others and trying to make a difference.
I’m really good at
Ah, well, if you’re into lists, here goes:

debating random things, pontificating about things, coming up with non-sensical attributes on what i'm drinking, writing, going on adventures; not to mention witty banter, cooking, geeking out and having fun.

enjoying wine, bourbon and scotch. these things I dearly love.

Also, I'm kinda a beer nerd. I'll admit that right now. Life is too short to be drinking crappy beer.

In fact, my friends and I have started brewing our own beer. Plus i go to the Great American Beer Festival in Denver every year. It's a blast.

If you ever want someone to try new beers, bourbons, scotches or any drinks; I'm your man.
The first things people usually notice about me
I used to say it's my eyes or that I have a “trustworthy” face.

More than anything I’d say people recognize my voice. It’s not quite a baritone but it’s very deep.

also, i can be pretty gullible at times. i just have a natural instinct to trust people.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm willing to read, watch or listen to just about anything, but there are a few things I'll always come back to.

For comics, it has to be a title called "Saga." It's an epic Sci-Fi/Fantasy story spanning a galactic future that is both fantastical beyond belief yet so relatable as to be something that could happen to any one of us in this war-torn world. Throw in amazing art by Fiona Staples and you've got one of the best comics ever made.

If we're talking literature; well this could take a while. There are a couple books that have truly changed my life.

In grade school/high school, it would have to be Ender's Game and Starship Troopers. Both are amazing complex and deep sci-fi epics that challenge your notion of right and wrong, morality and how we conduct ourselves in war and in life.

When it comes to straight lit, I've read and reread everything by Brad Warner. He's a former hardcore punk rocker from Ohio who grew up to be a Zen Buddhist priest who made Godzilla-style movies and traveled the world teaching everyone about Zen. Before reading his books I struggled for a long time to come to grips with making my atheism work in a practical matter and still feel connected to things. His Zen comes in a grounded, real-world practicality that all at once makes you trip out of your skull and feel rooted in reality at the same time. Truly a good read, funny too.

Music-wise I'm all over the place. I have deeply enjoyed being part of the Cincinnati music scene as it comes back into its own and starts creating some major acts. One of my favorite experiences so far has been watching Walk the Moon from right before they hit it big, (playing free gigs at Northside Tavern and what used to be the Mad Hatter,) to playing around the world. Right now I'm enjoying Bad Veins and Belle Histoire. If you ever want to go see some live music, I'm totally game.
The six things I could never do without
if you've made it this far, here goes: stimulating conversation, good friends, good food, amazing bourbon, travel and decent stories to read.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Mostly, I want to know more about where we’re going as a people and a country. I’d like to learn more about how we can shape that future and make it a better one.
On a typical Friday night I am
Of late, usually I try out new restaurants with a friend or such.

I also enjoy board games and video games. Really, I just enjoy spending time with my friends.

I also have an abiding love of movies. I'll watch just about anything, but I'm not a huge romantic comedy fan though.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I HAVE to take a shower every day. Otherwise I just feel icky and weird until I finally take one. It throws off my entire day.
