I was born on the east coast but always wanted to check out the west. Then when i got here spent a year talking about the differences. Now I hang out with a lot of people from the east coast. But when I think about going back there, it's hard to imagine leaving.
I'm good at making plans but better at implementing them. I tend to sound like I know what I'm talking about; most of the time it's also true. I express love by cooking for people, making fun of them, and organizing them to be together in beautiful places. I like going into Berkeley Bowl without a plan and letting the vegetables decide what's for dinner.
What I’m doing with my life
Living in a cottage. Playing outside. Perfecting my kale salad recipe. Trying to help humanity avoid destroying itself. Learning how to surf.
I’m really good at
Since shit is going to hit the fan, I think it's going to be all about our post-apocalyptic skills. Mine include: Storytelling, backwoods cooking, making up games, rolling joints, gardening, cuddling for warmth.
The first things people usually notice about me
Whatever emotion i'm feeling; i'm easy to read :0)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
It's the golden age of TV! Narcos is my recent favorite. Also The Wire, Friday Night Lights, Game of Thrones, West Wing, Six Feet Under (so under-appreciated), Breaking Bad. What did people do before TV on DVD?
Random movie favorites: Last movie I saw was Ex Machina; pretty cool. I thought Her should have won best picture in 2014. Sneakers is the movie I've seen the most times -- modern classic!. Hoosiers is the best sports movie ever, and I do like a good sports movie. Good Morning Vietnam is my favorite comedy.
I love to read anything and everything, the longer the better.
Fiction: David Foster Wallace understands our time better than anyone. Really sad that he took his own life. Salman Rushdie is an impressionist painter with words. Tolkein cause, obvs, and then all the fantasy writers trying to copy him. Haruki Marukami is like drinking white tea in a minimalist apartment. Recently into George Saunders -- crazy shit.
Non fiction: I read a lot about politics. Robert Caro is a genius. Taylor Branch's civil rights trilogy . What it Takes by Richard Ben Cramer. Sports books like Boys of Summer and Friday Night Lights.
The six things I could never do without
The only thing I really couldn't do without is my friends and family. I'm happiest when I'm around my peeps! But if had six other things
A sharp chef's knife
Strong tea in the morning
The chance to do work I really care about
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The fate of humanity. The next time I get to do something fun
outside. Putting things on my to do list. Crossing things off my to
On a typical Friday night I am
Tonight, watching Narcos. But I'm running out of episodes.
You should message me if
You think the best parties end with people getting sweaty on the dance floor. It weirds you it when you get on BART and everyone is staring at their cell phone, and then you do it too. You think it's fun to talk back to the TV. You don't take yourself too seriously, but you don't fuck around either.
