I was staring at the AOL headlines this morning, only to discover this - Mr. Rogers Gets The Ax From PBS!

http://www.parentdish.com/2008/08/08/pbs-to-cut-mister-rogers-neighborhood/?icid=200100397x1207093167x1200363596

Never thought I would feel so bad, but I would urge at least the 40- and 50-somethings out there to read the story, follow the link in the story and send a protest to PBS. At the risk of sounding like my grandmother, these modern times suck (though I don't think she'd use that term) - there just seems to be a lot of junk out there, and we're taking away an established solid success.

Maybe this is due to Mr. Rogers now being the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers?

Seriously, I think we should celebrate the duration and impact of the show. It is a minor miracle that it was available to children in this age considering the dominance of short attention spans and over stimulation.

An image of fredskippy Goos Morning, It is a shame they have taken off Mr. Rogers. Kids today are bombarded with advertising, violence and sexual messages which robs their childhood away. I have two kids myself and although they are to old for Mr.Rogers I do steer them more to going outside and watching more educational programs on television. Mr. Rogers existed when they were only a few channels on now with hundreds of channels to watch it seems like there is less quality from television shows. I am fortunate where I live, my 9 year old daughter bragged she caught a 7 inch bass from our local lake and I was greeted with two deer on my front lawn as I was leaving for work this morning. All is not lost, but it seems to take more effort for a simplier life.

An image of NELLSPOP I agree with you and grandmother. I will be accused of being old thinking but most of the shows on pbs from 10 years ago were great. Now not so much. Most folks want new and fast and shiny. look at the landfill for all the new stuff. "There is more to life than increasing its speed." -- Gandhi Peace, jerry

Didn't Mr. rogers pass away many years ago? I don't think it's nice that they gave him "the axe". Sounds kind of violent. Who did it, Captain Kangaroo? Never trusted that greenjeans character! Wouldn't you be suspicious if your co-worker wore the same clothes every day for years?

They're creating a market for the DVDs.

Mr. Rogers did pass away a few years ago. I remember watching his show as a child, and I loved it. My children never really got into it, but they have been raised in the age of cable and mindless children's programming at their finger tips 24 hours a day. When they were younger, I think about 3 and 8, we went to see the traveling exhibit for Mr. Rogers at the state museum. While they couldn't relate the puppets and scenery to the show, they had a wonderful time playing and using their imaginations. Imagination is something most children fail to get lost in. <sigh> I miss my childhood.

Seems the world is becoming jaded. Forgetting the importance of childhood innocence .A time to develop a healthy outlook on life. Many thinking for themselves and not the big picture.
