My self-summary Propose an edit

I recently moved here from the Upper Midwest, and I'm just getting settling into the southern speed of life (here in the Triangle, it seems to be about 75 mph with a latte in one hand an a cell phone in the other).

I fit into many molds. I'm a half-assed outdoorsman who skis and backpacks two weeks out of the year. A music buff who left his CD collection in Minnesota (hey, mp3s take up less space). An analytical thinker with a short attention span.

I'm looking for someone to explore the Triangle with. I've found isolated pockets of cool and unique places amid a sea of strip malls and utterly confounding parking lots. I know there has to be more...

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit

I edit a weekly online magazine about videogames and culture called The Escapist. I also write articles, reviews and the occasional editorial. I'm not a "gamer," but I definitely believe videogames will be the art form of 21st century, as soon as they stop sucking so badly.

I'm really good at Propose an edit

Ping pong, traveling without an itinerary, skiing (my high school actually had a ski team, which people here seem to find pretty amusing) politely disagreeing, procrastinating.

People have told me I ask good questions. I think it's a nice compliment.

It would have been my glasses, but they broke a couple months ago and I've been putting off getting another pair. So unfortunately there's no longer anything to distract from my goofy-ass smile.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit

Authors: Nabokov, DeLillo, Vonnegut, Kafka. I just read Watchmen and didn't really get what's so great about it. (Feel free to explain it to me. Or just tell me what a terrible person I am.)

Movies: Children of Men, There Will Be Blood, The Incredibles, Into the Wild, Boogie Nights, WALL-E. I am only slightly embarrassed to admit that I've seen The Dark Knight in theaters three times already.

TV: Six Feet Under, Freaks & Geeks, The Wire, Arrested Development. Just started watching Mad Men and can't decide if I'm fascinated or disgusted by it. Probably both.

Music: Björk, Radiohead, Cocteau Twins, Fleet Foxes, Caribou, late Miles Davis, Broadcast, XTC, Califone, a bunch of weird electronica. I'm seeing My Bloody Valentine in Chicago in September!

Food: Thai, Indian, sushi. Just discovered a Cajun place near my work that's pretty tasty.

Videogames (because they're serious business): Psychonauts, Portal, Shadow of the Colossus, Geometry Wars, Civilization 4, Peggle. Any game that challenges me to think or has the guts to be weird will get my attention. World of Warcraft is poison.

The six things I could never do without Propose an edit

My passport, a decent pair of headphones, coffee, my laptop, my piano, and my backpack. Obviously friends and family are more important than all that, but only a hermit/sociopath would say otherwise.

Lolcats, death, outer space, how to get back to Berlin, the Internet, Minneapolis (it's where I grew up), what in the hell I'm going to be doing in five years.
