15 Books

15 books in no particular order.

Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen books you've read that will always stick with you. First fifteen you can recall in no more than 15 minutes. You tag me, I tag you, yada yada, send to friends, etc.

This is for you, Molly, but it might be interesting.

1. The Animorphs, Applegate. I read them in college, and still find them to be intellectually stimulating.

2. Harry Potter series, J K Rowling. Jerry Potter says it all.

3. A Song of Ice and Fire, George R R Martin. Still one of my favorite writers, in everything he has done.

4. Son of a Witch, Gregory MaGuire. Rarely have my sex-dreams been pre-empted by the conclusion to a book. And rarely have I been so intellectually stimulated at the same time.

5. Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series, Tad Williams. Helped me get over sexuality as an ostracized subject.

6. Biological Exuberance, Bruce Bagemihl (sp?). I finally felt okay in my skin.

7. Hardy Boys series, "Franklin W Dixon". Juvenile, but they finally engaged me in reading.

8. The Discworld series, Terry Pratchett. Taught me how to laugh, unrestrainedly.

9. Dan Savage's Blog, Dan Savage (www.thestranger.com/seattle/SavageLove). Taught me a new level of acceptance, for both myself and for others.

10. That Was Then, This Is Now, S E Hinton. Also the author of The Outsiders, the first novel that made me sob...but TWT,TIN made me think.

11. Madame Bovary, Gustave Flaubert. It's all about the descriptive passages.

12. The Red Wheelbarrow, William Carlos Williams. Brevity does not equal wit, but it can.

13. Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird, Wallace Stevens. Funnily enough, I wrote a 13-page paper about this poem...and it has been a favorite since.

14. Hamlet, William Shakespeare. Brevity is the soul of wit.

And last, but favorite:

15. Persian Boy, Mary Renault. My favorite author of all time, and an amazing, and historical, look into the most eternal of cultures.

PS- It took me a bit longer than 15 minutes to pull this all together....
