I am easy going, good natured, and a good listener.

My Self-Summary

The "Dating Persona" test said I'm the "boy next door" type. The kind of guy girls say they want, but in reality rarely date.
The test seems to have pretty much nailed it. So if you're just looking for shallow sex, forget it. But if you're looking for someone to be friends with first, please read on. You will notice that age is not that important to me. What is very important is whether or not you are a nice person and that we like each other for who we are.

While I was married, I very much wanted to have children. But I didn't, and I really can't see myself ever having any of my own at this point in my life. Then again, stranger things have happened.

My name's Allan and I have long brown hair, what's left of it. It's graying at the temples and losing ground on the top. And no, I don't "comb-over". It's what nature has given me and I have no interest in trying to fool others into thinking otherwise.

Speaking of nature, I have always been thin. I can eat as much of anything I want and can't gain an ounce. People have said that my being a gourmand would catch up with me some day, but I don't see that happening. I weigh 135 pounds, I am healthy, and I walk often. My frequent walking may be a contributing factor to my weight, but I suspect it's more a result of my inheriting my grandmother's genes.

I am a caregiver at home and responsible for providing care 24/7 and I can only be absent for a few hours at a time and never over-night. My duties satisfy me in many ways, but also leave a big void. I have been divorced for many years, but I am in many ways "married to my job", so getting together may be a problem and getting to know each other well will take some time and effort.

That said, I go online every day, several times a day (7 days/week, 5 times a day - rather pathetic, I know). So if you don't mind email being the main form of communication, great!

What I’m doing with my life

Besides providing care, and keeping up with the chores and errands, I like to spend time outside gardening when it's nice, reading late at night, playing my bass guitar, and writing computer code. I have my own website with a forum and blog, and I am currently a mentor for a popular web development forum. I also visit Facebook regularly and try to tweet daily.

I’m really good at

Problem solving, fixing things, learning.
A quintessential Yankee Handyman.
I can do some carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical work, etc., and I'm smart enough to know when I can do it myself and when I should get a professional.

The first things people usually notice about me

Other than how I look, that I'm "cool".

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Favorite books? Oh sure! I have over 8 bookcases in my house and I'm always reading at least one book.

Movies? Similar to books, I have a lot of old VHS tapes and a few DVDs. And I'll watch just about anything at least once.

Music? Again, I have lots and lots of music. What I listen to depends on my mood and what I''m doing.

Food? Bring it on! I'm a bit picky when it comes to meat, otherwise I'll eat just about any food and lots of it.

The six things I could never do without

1: A smile from a friend
2: My 3 cats
3: My internet connection to the outside
4: My books
5: My sense of humor

On a typical Friday night I am

Like every night, at home attending to my caregiving responsibilities. I'm never alone, yet always alone.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm so thin I've been told I have "no butt" more than once.

You should message me if

You are usually in a cheerful mood,
Interested in getting to know a nice guy,
Between the ages of 18 and 108,
My age is not a problem for you,
My long hair and pattern baldness is not a problem for you,
Live in or near the lower Pioneer valley,
Willing and able to take the time for us to get to know each other better,
Think a walk in Mittineague Park might be good for a first meet-up.

I come up in your "matches" and I might not have found you (eg. no profile picture). I will reply. I have enough common decency to at least acknowledge someone's message.
