My self-summary
Yet another Midwest transplant (as if there aren't enough of us out here already). I've been here for a year and still finding new things to love about DC.

Musician at heart, nerdy computer programmer by profession. Bone-dry sarcasm is my default mode of communication. Some find this hilarious, others find it confusing. I have a soft spot for terrible puns.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently working for a clean tech software company in Arlington, VA. Other than that I'm just trying to enjoy life and meet new people in the DC area.
I’m really good at
Melting people's faces with a guitar. I play mostly funk and soul-based rock but I have a solid jazz background as well.

I'd like to think I'm good at making people laugh although you must have a deeply sarcastic sense of humor for this to apply.

I like to think I'm also good at my job (software development), but that is pretty secondary in the grand scheme of things. Don't tell my boss I said that, please.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm awesome? I honestly have no idea. Probably depends on the person and the situation.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Good lord, this is going to take forever. Let's start with what's imporant...music: Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Sly and the Family Stone, Bela Fleck, Isley Brothers, Gap Band, Donny Hathaway, Roberta Flack, Jaco Pastorius, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Zapp & Roger, Jay Z, Brother Ali, De La Soul, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Pharcyde, James Brown, Otis Redding, Shuggie Otis, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Galactic, Greyboy Allstars, Medeski Martin and Wood, The Meters, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, Radiohead, Tortoise, any 90s grunge artist, many others...

TV: The Wire, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Community, Parks and Recreation, Eastbound and Down, Curb Your Enthusiasm, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Arrested Development, The Simpsons, South Park, Treme, Game of Thrones, Deadwood, Dexter, Twin Peaks...

Food: Yes, please. Lately I've been on a Southwestern/Mexican kick but I love Mediterranean, Thai, Indian, Italian, good old fashioned American comfort food... fried chicken and waffles is one of the best food trends to make a resurgence in recent years. Pho is pretty much the greatest dish ever created by man. Basically, I will eat anything as long as it's well-prepared with quality ingredients.

Books: Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, Robert Anton Wilson, Charles Bukowski, Chuck Palahniuk, Ken Kesey, Cormac Mcarthy, Malcolm Gladwell, many others... Miles Davis' Autobiography is one of the best books I've read in a while. Currently reading the Dark Tower series by Stephen King.

Movies: Cohen Brothers, Stanley Kubrick, Judd Apatow (getting a little unoriginal lately though with the bromance genre), Tarantino, Scorsese, Godfather (parts 1 and 2 only, of course), Wes Anderson, Charlie Kaufman, etc
The six things I could never do without
Hmm, let's see how many of these aren't total cliches. I'm guessing zero: Music, laughter, family, friends, sex, good food.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
All manner of random shit. Topics include but are not limited to: Music (specifically trying to figure out how I can write and/or play more of it on a daily basis), how badly I need a vacation and where I'm going to go when I finally find the time, whether our society is truly the mind-boggling clusterfuck that a cursory glance at google news would lead one to believe, what I'm going to eat that day, how I'm realistically going to cram all of the things I want to do into the 4-6 hour window between work and sleep....
On a typical Friday night I am
Either home playing guitar and watching episode after episode of whatever show I'm into at the moment, or preferably intoxicated at one of DC's many fine drinking establishments. Current favorites are Red Derby, Bourbon (as long as I can get the hell out of there before Adams Morgan transforms into Douche City), Dodge City, Rock and Roll Hotel.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 23–33
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, activity partners
You should message me if
You are a hilarious, fun-loving person who wants to explore DC, meet new people and generally have a good time. If you know of a good show coming up or just generally know some good music venues in DC that I should be frequenting, that would be an added bonus. Basically, if you are convinced that I am neither a creep nor a douchebag and you would like to hang out, drop me a line.
