My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Update: I'm moving to Houston in a couple of weeks. Not that I really had much time for OKcupid, but hey, you should probably know.

I'm a social creature. To a fault.

I just moved back to Austin after a five-year hiatus. New job. Was happy to be there. Now it's off to Houston. Same firm, different office.

This self-summary thing feels a bit vain. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that.

I get really nerdy and obsessed with hobbies/interests.

Seriously, after a bit of browsing, I've noticed that people take this website way too seriously.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm a lawyer. I work mostly with people who are struggling in debt because of serious illness or cancer among other things. I sleep well at night.

I'm an academic at heart. The last five years I spent in Waco (an awful place to live). I attended law school there and then was hired on at the school as an advocacy coach and researcher. I took a pay cut to get to had to happen. Eight months later, the firm decided to move me to Houston. I miss the academic world, but I really do believe that talents are best spent helping people. Researching legal doctrines doesn't really help anyone, I am, ready to jump in some trenches.

Prior to law school I taught preschool, coached high school debate, and worked as a fulltime musician for several years. Music has always been my most passionate escape. My twenties were awesome. I had the fortune of playing for some great artists and toured all over the world...and all I have to show for it are some lousy Norwegian t-shirts and life-long friends. Ask me sometime about the time a band I was in got kicked out of a London hotel at 2:30 a.m. It was 15 degrees when they booted us out. Top that Keith Richards....

Music is fun, but at the end of the day, so what? You've just entertained some people. Nobody cures cancer with a guitar, unless they're The Boss or Bono. I'm not judging, just observing...and I'm not saying don't play music either. If you can't tell, I've been a little turned off by the Austin, 30-something trust-fund-dumpster-divers who can't play a scale to save their life, yet resort to being smug about the way they see the world as a musician, as if it makes them a deep pocket of wisdom.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Feeling entitled and opinionated. I once stood up to a dinosaur because she insulted a lady.
The first things people usually notice about me

That I'm tall, suave, fit, modest, and impossibly handsome with a fully developed sense of irony.

Music: Everything. Except Toby Keith. Fuck that guy.

George and Ira Gershwin! If you don't like them, you don't like America.

Fleetwood Mac. Yes...Yes....Yes....

Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, Guy Forsyth, U2 (yes, they are awesome, get off your hipster-high-horse), Waylon Jennings, Chet Atkins, The Carter Family, Iris Dement, Gurf Morlix, Kathleen Edwards, Led Zeppelin, Magic Sam, Tom Waits, Dale Watson, Blackalicious, The Beach Boys, Patty Griffin (please, marry me), The Be Good Tanyas, Slaid Cleaves, The Blind Boys of Alabama....I could go on, but I'd be obnoxious.

Books. Love em'. Sedaris. Hemingway. Dr. Suess. Been on a physics kick lately but am transitioning back to to fiction. Recently just read the Shining and King's recent sequel to the Shining, Dr. Sleep. Little Danny Torrance is all grown up now.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
The minor blues scale. O'connors. Cowboy boot for my left foot. Cowboy boot for my right foot. Cynicism. My bass collection. My niece. My nephew. The ability to count.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Tetherball strategy.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Clamoring. Debauchering. Making up participles.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

You like beer and conversation, and don't take yourself or OKcupid too seriously. And, if you have your life together. Nothing is more attractive than a person who is goal-oriented and ambitious toward making the world a better place.

But on a serious note, it's time. I'm looking for a serious committed relationship. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I'm jumping into something right away. I really just enjoy meeting new people, but at this point in my life I have different priorities and am ultimately looking for something long term.

Don't message me if you think that Obama is hiding his real birth certificate from us all. That goes for you creepy girl who has messaged me five times in the last week from Round Rock. Yeah...I noticed. I'm not writing you back.
