My self-summary
Most of this profile is from a few years ago when I was out in Tucson, AZ. I just recently came back and updated it a little, though I don't have as much time now as I did then.

I like reading, writing and learning new things in general. I'm tragically behind in my reading list. Poor Mr. Diamond is languishing somewhere in storage, and here I sit, uneducated.

I have a wide range of interests, from programming, art and the chemistry of cooking to linguistics.

My favorite defense mechanisms are intellectualization and humor.

I have an undergrad degree in Biotechnology and remain passionately interested in how life works, though I'm more interested in technical communication than labwork.

I don't do 'clubbing' and I'm amazed that people waste so much time and money buying tickets to sports games. It has all the appeal of watching people exercise.

I'm honest, blunt and loyal. I prefer people who are willing to be direct and speak their minds, solve problems rationally, and get on with their lives.

I believe that anyone who loves reading Tolkien is worth talking to. I read The Silmarillion solely for the purpose of being able to argue "author's intent" with my friends. I used to do archery and fencing, rock climbing, and paintballing but haven't had the time or opportunity lately.

Together, Terry Pratchet and myself are the living embodiments of sarcasm. We have sold a combined total of roughly 40 million books worldwide.

I've been a teacher, an e-learning specialist, a professional writer (short essays only. I have no attention span), and I do freelance web design. Recently, I helped make a 3D game in Unity, for which I am very proud of myself.

For those into Meyers Briggs, I'm an INTP.

Intelligence is a huge turn on.

I am honest, literate, and inquisitive
What I’m doing with my life
Living and learning. Changing and growing. Currently working as a web developer.
I’m really good at
listening, writing, wasting time, rock climbing, identifying wild plants\Botany\taxonomy and herbal medicine. I'm much better at the midwestern habitats where I grew up, though.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm guessing it's the shaved head. I've also been told I have a 'nice ass.' But having never taken the time to look at my ass, I don't know if this is true. Of course, I'm far too modest to post a picture. So if you want to know, you'll have to meet me in person and trail slightly behind me while I'm walking. Also people tend to notice that I can be incredibly sarcastic.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
(a) Lord of the Rings\LOTR(J.R.R. Tolkien), Contact (Carl Sagan), American Gods (Neil Gaiman), From the Soil\Rural China (Fei Xiaotong), The Bridge Across Forever, One (Richard Bach), Small Gods (Terry Pratchet), Peterson's Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants, various myths, Asimov's non-fiction essays, The Evolution of Infectious Diseases (Paul Ewald), Extinction (David Raup), The Princess Bride (William Goldman), At Home in Universe ( the Autobiography of Buckminster Fuller), Player Piano, Palm Sunday, Wampeters, Foma and Granfalloons, (Kurt Vonnegut), Getting to Yes (The Harvard Negotiaton Project), The Mismeasure of Man (Stephen Jay Gould)

(b) Groundhog Day, Lord of the Rings, Real Genius

(c) Rock, Country, J-Pop, Modern Gaelic, Alternative, 80s, musicals. Gaelic Storm, Papaya, Aqua, Toy Box ... almost anything except Rap, some heavy metal and a lot of traditional ethnic songs and hymnns.

(d) Health food, Italian, dark chocolate, toffee, fruit, vegetables. I'm strict vegetarian, but not evangelical about it. I like the term "meat and potatoes vegetarian" since I don't necessarily identify with 'vegetarian culture.'
The six things I could never do without
Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, Heart and Captain Planet! Did anyone else think it was a little ironic that the action figures for an environmentally themed super hero were made out of... uh... plastic?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
From Wikipedia;

"Who's your daddy?" is a colloquial phrase that first gained popularity in the 1990s. It is a demand on the speaker's part for respect from the addressee, and tends to carry slightly sexual overtones, as it is often employed as a pseudo-Freudian outburst during sex.

Though extant in the vernacular for some time (perhaps most notably in the 1968 song "Time of the Season" by The Zombies), the phrase sprang to prominence in 2002, saturating pop culture and appearing everywhere from movies to a country music song by Toby Keith.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working. Going out with friends. Working. Texting friends. Reading "Questionable Content" and "XKCD" (comics), Working.

I love hanging out with people, but I need more down time than average to recharge.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If I'm going to be in a long term, exclusive relationship it's important for my partner to want children eventually. Because of some deep, dark part of my psyche that I cannot fathom and despite being open about this early on, this fact has broken up two very long term relationships when the girls decided the whole 'mom' thing was not for them. I think I have this pattern because I'm attracted to intelligent, independent girls. In any case, if anyone has friendly advice on how to change the pattern, I'm open to it.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 22–48
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, activity partners
You should message me if
You like to read. You're interesting. You like people who are interesting. You're honest, or at least a very bad liar. You need an exercise partner. You need a hug. You've read the book but didn't like the movie. You're outgoing and want someone to talk to. You're introverted and need someone who can understand you. You have a question you just want to ask somebody. You have a secret you just need to tell somebody. You're a massage therapist and you need someone to practice on. You want backrubs. You run an animal testing lab that's fresh out of guinea pigs and you're looking for volunteers. There's something you want me to teach you. You have something you think you can teach me. You're feeling lucky. You're feeling lonely. You're at peace with the universe. You've managed to read this far in my profile.
