My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Most of this profile is from a number of years ago. I'm looking for exercise buddies, fellow foodies, and geeky creative types. I'm not looking for hookups.

I like reading, writing and learning new things in general.

My favorite defense mechanisms are intellectualization and humor.

I have an undergrad degree in Biotechnology and remain passionately interested in how life works.

I prefer people who are willing to be direct and speak their minds, solve problems rationally, and get on with their lives. But I'm usually cautious till I get the measure of a person. With kindred souls this can take hours or days, with others, weeks or months. But good friends grow towards each other over time.

If I like someone I'm willing to invest, intellectually and emotionally, in their obsessions so we can explore that part of the world together.

I believe that anyone who loves reading Tolkien is worth talking to. I used to do archery and fencing, rock climbing, and paintballing but haven't had the time or opportunity lately.

I've been a teacher, an e-learning specialist, a professional writer and a web developer. I've done a little bit of work with augmented reality, which was fun, but there's not a big enough market for that kind of thing to keep me busy full time.

For those into Myers Briggs, I'm an INTP. What made Myers- Briggs so darn popular, anyways?
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Living and learning. Changing and growing. Currently working as a web developer. Trying to adapt from Olympic style fencing to SCA style, which is considerably more realistic.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
listening, writing, wasting time, rock climbing, identifying wild plants\Botany\taxonomy and herbal medicine. I'm much better at the midwestern habitats where I grew up, though.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I've also been told I have a 'nice ass.' But having never taken the time to look at my ass, I don't know if this is true. Of course, I'm far too modest to post a picture. So if you want to know, you'll have to meet me in person and trail slightly behind me while I'm walking.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, Heart and Captain Planet! Did anyone else think it was a little ironic that the action figures for an environmentally themed super hero were made out of... uh... plastic?

...I've been thinking about this question. The only time it actually moves the conversation forward in some way is when it lists a dealbreaker. Like a religious person lists "God" and an avowed atheist says to themselves "I'm outta here." Because really, people listing "air" here in an attempt to be clever aren't really telling us anything we don't already know.... okay, I kindof did that, but I was actually being clever. At least a little, right?

Anyways, since this question only serves to list dealbreakers I'd suggest to anyone reading this that they re-interpret it in that fashion and list things that they need in a relationship, specifically.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

All the ways that my brain tries to lie to me.

How people seem to believe that they understand the experiences and conditions of others so much better than they actually do.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Working. Going out with friends. Working. Texting friends. Reading web comics and searching pubmed. Working.

I love hanging out with people, but I need more down time than average to recharge.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I cannot talk to strangers, because once I talk to them they are no longer strangers.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You like to read. You're interesting. You like people who are interesting. You're honest, or at least a very bad liar. You need an exercise partner. You need a hug. You've read the book but didn't like the movie. You're outgoing and want someone to talk to. You're introverted and need someone who can understand you. You have a question you just want to ask somebody. You have a secret you just need to tell somebody. You're a massage therapist and you need someone to practice on. You run an animal testing lab that's fresh out of guinea pigs and you're looking for volunteers. There's something you want me to teach you. You have something you think you can teach me. You're feeling lucky. You're feeling lonely. You're at peace with the universe. You've managed to read this far in my profile.
