I am judgemental, sentimental, and aloof.
My Self-Summary
I'm a 60 y.o. federal gov't retiree with some preferences:
Yes to: bi/multicutural, born overseas or extensive overseas
living/travel (I had the good fortune to live 20 yrs in Italy. But
after the Italian wife...well, that's another story.); dogs,
horses; classical music listener or performer (strings or piano);
degree, good vocabulary; no children; slender/average; career
experience - as opposed to at home mom; food, wine, conversation;
small dinner parties; reading for pleasure.
NO to: religionist; godfearing; hyperactive; beer; cats;
republican; fishing/camping; professional televised sports; harley,
RV, corvette; nascar; star trek, pirates of the carribbean; stephen
king, grisham, gone with the wind; musicals, oldies, andrew
lloyd-weber, karaoke; fastfood, jello; stds; I'm allergic to cats,
though I like them.
I love classical music (big bonus if you play) and many other
kinds, including classic rock and blues.
If your greatest accomplishment is raising your kids...pass me by,
though I might be able to accept another's family and enjoy cooking
for them.
Of course, I don't mean to be categorical about any single item,
but you get the drift....
So many women mention desire for travel in their profiles. IF I
were to travel anymore, it would be to the major cities of western
Europe: the only art, culture, sophistication, and comfort that
matter. I've never been on a cruise, but that could be OK.
You should have answered many question/taken lots of tests. That's
what OKC is about, isn't it?
OK, time for a revelation: I have lots of tattoos (not visible over
clothing) all done within the last three years. None of them are
from prison; most are literary allusions from Dante, Homer, Blake,
(and Helmut Newton) etc.
What I’m doing with my life
Coasting, right now. (See Lamb's "Superannuated Man.")
I’m really good at
I was good at my profession, but that's all behind me now.
Cooking, small scale entertaining.
The first things people usually notice about me
My diplomatic tone (usually) and soulful eyes.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Trollope, other Victorians, the usual 20th century suspects (and
see Booker, below); Movies: Coen brothers, Schindler's List, The
Reader. All forms of classical music, especially violin; Italian
food, northern and southern, other Mediterranean, French, simple
grilled fish, meat, vegetables.
I finally watched Shindler's List recently: a powerful and
disturbing work. I was touched and intrigued by The Reader - erotic
and emotionally complex.
Among all time favorite movies are My Life as a Dog and The
Hairdresser's Husband. Both seem to touch on the imperfectability -
but necessity - of love.
The latest Tarantino film, Inglorius Basterds, was uneven but had
its moments. It was daring in creating a simpatico Nazi.
I've set myself the goal of reading all Booker Prize winning novels
- for the pleasure of it, and as a way of penetrating late 20th
century cultural history - White Tiger and many others. I usually
prefer non- fiction, and am browsing Naming Nature and Life
Ascending.** continued below...
The six things I could never do without
dogs, music, works of art, oriental rugs, wine, books.
Companionship?
I'd rather have certain pleasures and do without some
necessities.
You may have noticed 'drink regularly' among my details. The
evening meal without a few glasses of wine would be
disappointing.
**Latest favorite movie, "Dean Spanley," with Peter O'Toole.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The existential realities of life -- yeah right!
I do Transcendetal Meditation - which is thinking about nothing,
but refreshing.
On a typical Friday night I am
Days of the week mean nothing to me. I rarely remember which day it
is.
It is disappointing to see so many women stipulate one external
thing, such as dancing every weekend, as the sine qua non of a
relationship. How superficial is that?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
If you didn't see it on the front page of the Washington Post, I
wasn't willing to admit it.
I've never been able to watch "Umberto D" past the first half, if
that. Far too emotionally wrenching. It helps if you know what
Umberto D is.
Although I love music, I can't dance.
You should message me if
,under this quirky profile, you recognize a sensitive, vulnerable,
fellow human being waiting to hear from you.
