I am seldom bored, usually perceptive, and insatiably curious.
My Self-Summary
I have the curiosity of a kid and hopefully you do too. I buy the
strange fruit at the grocery store, abuse my library card, and am
fascinated by big ideas like the TED talks. I'm more into science
and philosophy and living wisely and gracefully than religion,
spirituality, psychics, reiki, and astrology.
I'm creative and analytical, easy going and happy, competitive in a
friendly way, socially liberal but don't believe government
programs are always a good idea. I make friends easily and get
along with pretty much everyone. I love a story well told.
I'm in New England for the holidays, but usually live in Los
Angeles. Thanksgiving and Christmas are better with snow...
What I’m doing with my life
People trust me to make their money grow. I make wise decisions
about what to invest their money in. It all works out well.
I’m really good at
-
painting (see
my photos)
-
writing stories,
essays, poems, facebook status messages (i think)
-
listening, and
i like to think i'm decent at giving advice
-
empathizing
with family, friends, strangers
-
tennis,
golf, sports in general (wish
I enjoyed running but nope)
- understanding academic stuff
-
negotiating
-
kissing, and
apparently not being humble about it.
-
reading fast,
which was sooo useful in law school.
-
teaching and
learning
I wouldn't say I'm so great at dancing but I do love it. "Let us
read and let us dance - two amusements that will never do any harm
to the world." - Voltaire
And I'm definitely not good at singing but once I actually have
that karaoke mike I'm pretty fearless.
The first things people usually notice about me
is that I like a bit of friendly mischief. Ok that's not the first
thing they notice, but it's the first thing they remember :)
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I love literature with a plot, any book that is vivid and well
written, or even badly written books that for some reason spark my
creativity. I read a lot. Favorites would be
To Kill a Mockingbird,
anything by
Shakespeare,
Heinlein,
Rowling or
Asimov,
Ender's Game, and
The Hobbit. I also like
nonfiction books that try to understand the world:
Adam Smith,
Malcolm Gladwell, and
Jared
Diamond. I've read a ton of books on business. I also love
Calvin
& Hobbes and
xkcd.
I enjoy most movies, except maybe horror. My favorites:
Goonies,
Shawshank Redemption,
Casablanca,
Dirty Rotten
Scoundrels,
Raiders of the Lost Ark,
E.T.,
Star Wars,
Ferris
Bueller's Day Off,
Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,
Fletch,
Kill Bill,
Bourne,
The Professional,
Three Kings,
The Princess
Bride,
The Royal Tenenbaums,
Let the
Right One In,
Contact, and anything by
Pixar.
I don't watch that much tv but do really like
Fringe,
Heroes,
Bones,
True Blood, and
Charlie Rose. I used to watch
Seinfeld,
Battlestar Galactica, and
Generation
Kill.
I love anything with a good beat or clever lyrics, so:
Sting,
Coldplay,
Death Cab for Cutie,
Jay-Z,
Los Amigos
Invisibles,
Beethoven,
Adele,
Springsteen,
Johnny Cash,
Lily Allen,
MGMT,
Rachmaninov, and
U2. I get addicted to particular songs:
Walk
Like an Egyptian, Killer's Human,
Viva La Vida, and
The Gambler.
I like all
fruit. I
will happily eat
dessert before (and after) dinner. I
usually eat healthily, but don't restrict what I eat in any way.
Except I avoid mushy cooked vegetables. I've got friends who are
vegetarian, pescetarian and vegan but I'd prefer not to date
someone who is.
The six things I could never do without
#6: ideas and stories and storytelling
#5: a piece of paper, sketchpad, canvas, or similar outlet for
creativity
#4: fruit and, it's close corollary, dessert
#3: self respect
#2: the internet. i mean i know i did for years, but how?
#1: love of family and friends (...and you?)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how things work, how to improve at the stuff I do, how to help my
friends, family and strangers, what to create next, kissing and
sex, where I'd like to travel, what I'd like to read, see or
experience, when I'll get to play tennis next.
On a typical Friday night I am
hanging out with my friends, possibly at a bar, house party,
concert or other event, but sometimes I stay in to read, write,
paint, watch a movie, chill.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
is that when I say I like fruit I really mean I'm addicted to
fruit.
You should message me if
you are smart, funny, and creative,
you are dumb, boring and uninspired, but willing to play tennis,
or
you are over 95% my enemy (I'm looking for my nemesis).
