I see a lot of movies, go to the gym regularly, play poker when I can, reject all religion, read voraciously, argue with right-wingers, listen to jazz and Tom Waits as much as possible, live with two amusing cats, am learning to cook, learning Spanish, and work on my scripts somewhere in there.

I am redundant, repetitive, and redundant

I'm a writer and poker dealer who lives in LA most of the year but spent half the summer in Las Vegas dealing the World Series of Poker and half of it in Spain, learning Spanish. Now I'm back, in NoHo, transitioning, excited to see what comes next. I've also been on a few game shows but it's hard to make a career of that. Damnit.

Writing, playing poker (well...getting there), listening, wise-ass quips, arguing politics, the New Yorker Caption Contest, trivia, killing time, sarcasm, talking movies, alienating people, karaoke, coming up with stuff to do, and (I'm told) giving gifts, evoking smiles and the occasional gasp.

Movies: 2001, One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest, Stop Making Sense, Miller's Crossing, A Face in the Crowd, Swingers, Naked Lunch, The Usual Suspects, Sweet Smell of Success, Glengarry Glen Ross, Rio Bravo, Short Cuts, Vertigo, King of the Hill, Woman in the Dunes, Homicide. Well, actually, let's face it, most Kubrick, lots of Hitchcock, Scorsese, Billy Wilder, Robert Altman, Howard Hawks, Coen Bros., Steven Soderbergh, early David Mamet. Many, many documentaries, particularly the "Paradise Lost" movies. The West Memphis 3 are finally free!

Music: Tom Waits, They Might Be Giants, Talking Heads/David Byrne, Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Buster Poindexter, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Louises Prima and Armstrong (basically, if you want your kid to be a great swing/jazz artist, name him Louis), lounge, swing and classic jazz. Also have a weakness for albums by people who aren't mainly musical: Pia Zadora, Danny Aiello, Robert Mitchum's calypso album, Maya Angelou's calypso album, and yes, even Dr. Kevorkian's jazz album, just to name a few.

Books: The God Delusion, A Prayer for Owen Meany, Haruki Murakami, Tibor Fischer, Kurt Vonnegut, Richard Brautigan, Invisible Man (Ellison), anything by Al Franken, Matt Taibbi, Glenn Greenwald

Food: Thai, Peruvian, Greek, sushi, crunchy sesame sticks, and pretty much anything with a tangy sauce

Either playing poker, going to a movie, or wondering why there are no poker games or movies going on that night. Then eventually watching Bill Maher and zipping through it because the guests are lame. And then...time for porn!
