My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Current facial hair status: Beard-ish. I keep impulse shaving.

I do think it's an awkward thing to talk about yourself in one of these. I mean, you want to come across as interesting and unique, but you don't want to get too braggadocious and look like a complete ass. I'll try my best to stick with the truth, and just maybe you'll think I'm someone you want to know (HINT: I am!).

On the surface, I probably seem like a nice, genial guy. And I am, it's how I was raised. I spent the better part of the first 27 years of my life living in Iowa, so I will totally be more polite than you any day of the week. Sorry, but that's just how it is.

And I love Iowa, I really do. There's a whole lot about the place that is very worthwhile. But I realized when I was in high school that Chicago was the place for me. I don't know if it was the great food, the vibrance of the city, or just the fact that something was always happening, it caught my heart and never let go. Coming from a fairly small town, it was a complete change of pace, and I wanted it. And maybe it took me a few years, but I got here and I've been pretty happy about it ever since.

But get to know me and you'll find I'm more than just a nice guy. I'm fun to be around, I'm goofy, I can hold my own in most any conversation, and I love to laugh. I'm admittedly pretty dorky about a lot of stuff, and I think my life is a blast.

I love getting out and exploring the city, especially finding new restaurants. Think you know the best Chinese place? Let me know. Know any margaritas that are more killer than Cesar's? Show me. I dare you.

I also need karaoke to live. No exaggeration. I have a few songs I can rock, and I keep looking to expand my arsenal.

But if I don't feel like going out, that's fine. I'm comfortable hanging out, watching a movie or playing games. I even love doing puzzles.

So send me a message. I love hearing from people, whether you're looking for a friend or more. I'll do my best to reply!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work in social media for a growing tech company here in Chicago. It's a pretty cool place, and I enjoy it. Outside of that I just like to spend as much time as possible with my friends, getting into all sorts of trouble and causing hijinks.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Karaoke. If you're lucky I'll show you.

Puzzles and strategy - type games. Think Catan. I have an analytical mind.

I also love to make sandwiches, experimenting with different toppings and ingredients just for fun. I think they're pretty great, and if we go to a place that has a build your own option I'll probably be choosing it.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm pretty tall at 6'3", so that's the obvious choice. I know that's my height because an old man in a JC Penney's told me without even measuring. It was the best fitting tux I ever rented.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Off the top of my head? The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, A Confederacy of Dunces, Tolkein's works, House of Leaves, Game of Thrones, How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, Firefly/anything Whedon, Community, Modern Family, Arrested Development, Zoolander, Anchorman, The Newsroom, The Wire... a lot of stuff. I absolutely love stories, especially epics.

As for music, I was definitely a child of the eighties and nineties, so that's where I get a lot of my musical sensibilities. I listen to Sister Hazel, Weezer, Ben Folds, Barenaked Ladies (preferably with Stephen Page), Hall and Oates, Styx, Queen, Guns n Roses, Dave Matthews Band, Dispatch, Guster, Pomeroy, Neil Diamond, Elton John, and lots more.

My favorite food is the Mission style burrito. Want to travel to San Francisco with me someday to visit the restaurant that created it? Cause that's happening. I also am on a search for the best burger in Chicago. Message me if you want to find out my research thus far.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My friends, first and foremost. I'd go nuts without them. My computer and my bed for sure, and I guess my phone. I think back before people ever had cell phones and I am baffled at how we got by without them. You mean we couldn't get ahold of someone if they were at the store? Barbaric!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Currently, it's board game design. It's something I'd love to do someday.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Maybe out, but since I work early on Saturdays I usually try to get to bed pretty early. Keyword is try. I often fail.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I've listened to "Friday" by Rebecca Black way more than I'd care to admit.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
I want to find the Ellie to my Carl.

I'd definitely say to just message me. I love getting messages. I also appreciate someone who knows what they want, and I think there's a thin line between a guy being that "awesome and spontaneous and cute guy," and being that super creepo. It's been my goal in life not to be that creepo.

Finally, I strongly encourage correct spelling and grammar. To me, it's the idea of how you want to present yourself to someone. I want to show you my best, and I hope you'd do the same for me.
