This is my first year in Berkeley after spending eleven in Boston
studying probability and artificial intelligence at MIT. (I just
attended my first Bay to Breakers, where it really sunk in how much
I've fallen in love with this area!) Now I'm running a tech startup
with my friends, trying to use those skills to reinvent computing
from the ground up, hopefully helping to cure a few diseases and
make some shiny gadgets along the way.
I love to cook intricate meals (with bonus points for specialized gadgets!) I'm a fan of nerdy pastimes -- German-style board games a la Dominion/Settlers of Catan/Puerto Rico, video games (the quirkier the better: I'll take Portal or Katamari Damacy over Halo or Madden 20X6 any day, though Rock Band definitely has its place), and puzzles & wordplay (e.g. cryptic crosswords, MIT Mystery Hunt). When I'm not geeking out, I try to stay active: I regularly run and hike in Tilden park, bike through the Berkeley hills, surf the Marin headlands, ski Tahoe, and do yoga in my bedroom. I've also been known to go sailing, indoor rock climbing, to learn how to blow glass or play in a Balinese percussion orchestra, to go berry-picking in the summer, apple-picking in the fall, or snowball-fight-picking in the winter. I would love to spend more time traveling to exciting places, enjoying live music and unusual shows (I once got to experience Willy Wonka in Smell-o-Vision -- more like this, please!), and discovering the hidden secrets of the Bay.
I'm looking for people who will revel in life -- who can find the humor in everyday situations, who appreciate the first signs of the changing of the seasons, who love to concoct crazy schemes, and occasionally even see them through. I'm looking for people who agree that extended puns are an underappreciated art form (bawdiness optional, but encouraged). I'm looking for people who can be candid and empathetic at the same time, who are responsibly young in spirit. Are you too?
And since there aren't slots for these things over in the My Details section: I'm in a poly (non-monagamous) relationship: a stable triad that is expecting our first child this summer. Fortunately, three parents means I'll still have time for dating, in whatever form seems natural (including being open to the possibility of building co-primary/non-hierarchical relationships). Also, I identify as bi, but my experience is mostly with ladies. Guys are welcome to woo me, but you're going to need a lot more grace than a wink or a "hey"!
