My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I love music. It's the center of my life. I play electric guitar, bass, and some piano. I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to music. I collect vinyl records, and I'm constantly in search of new material. I work as a music producer and sound engineer, which I love.
Writing is my other passion. I write every day. Most of what I write is complete garbage. Hopefully some of it isn't, but I don't see myself being good enough at writing to do it professionally.
I'm kind of quiet at first, but I'm much more open with people once I'm comfortable with them. I'm definitely an introvert, though. Parties overwhelm me. I'd much prefer being alone or with a small group of close friends.
I'm ethnically Jewish, and I was raised in the Jewish religion, but I'm pretty much an atheist now. I do think about matters of philosophy and theology a lot though, and they interest me greatly.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I produce and record music. I also work at a library part-time.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I really hope I'm good at music.
I know lots of useless facts and trivia.
I love lists. I'm constantly ranking things, if that can be considered a skill.
I'm good at reading people. My first impressions are usually right, and I'm good at noticing subtleties in emotion.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have a moderate stutter. It increases when I'm nervous, which I often am while meeting new people.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books are a lifelong passion of mine. My favorites include The Great Gatsby (my absolute favorite), To Kill a Mockingbird, The Book Thief, The Sun Also Rises, Watchmen, House of Leaves, Catcher in the Rye, and King Lear.
I'm woefully uneducated when it comes to movies. I like cult classics, but I'm generally not as passionate about movies as I am about other art forms. I love watching television characters develop, and I don't think movies have a long enough format to accomplish such wide narrative arcs. I'd genuinely love to be proven wrong, though.
Shows: Battlestar Galactica, Lost, Firefly, Breaking Bad, Twin Peaks, Six Feet Under, The Wire, The Sopranos.
Music: I'm mainly interested in experimental/alternative rock, post-punk, and shoegaze. I have too many favorites to list completely, but they include Radiohead, Bob Dylan, Joy Division, Talking Heads, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Codeine, REM, Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr, Magazine, Bauhaus, The Cure, The Fall, Wire, The Velvet Underground, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, The Clash, The Smiths, early Arcade Fire, My Bloody Valentine, Catherine Wheel, Slowdive, Otis Redding, The Beatles, Brian Eno, The Rolling Stones, Spiritualized, Led Zeppelin, Burial, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, and anything produced by Steve Albini.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My guitar.
Good music, and a decent way to listen to it.
Good books.
A notebook and pencil. (Probably an eraser, too.)
Someone to share thoughts with.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Life. I'm an atheist, but I grew up in a very religious Jewish family. It's startling to find yourself unsure of your purpose when you've always thought it was simply to follow God.
I want to be important. Not necessarily famous, but significant on a worldwide cultural level. Music and literature are my deepest passions, and I'm afraid my life will be meaningless if I can't succeed creatively.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
This isn't something I keep secret or anything, but it's not immediately obvious and there's nowhere else to mention it: I have severe epilepsy. It certainly doesn't define me, but it does affect my life to some extent.
