I came to Oklahoma in 2010 for grad school. I have a brother and a sister and no dog yet.

I'm in a doctoral program so it's looking to be a long stay in OK. I like it here though, no matter what everyone insists on saying for some reason.

I'm from a military family but I'm not military myself. I appreciate the cold hard truth but I like egregious sugar coating just as much. I really like the idea of running and hope someday, if i do it enough, I'll come to not hate the reality of it.

Studying medical anthropology with an emphasis on tribal health. I'm interested in tribal self-determination and self-governance in the health care sector.

When I'm not doing that, I'm usually fishing.

I do have a pretty sweet saltwater aquarium.

On multiple occasions I've had strangers, with no solicitation whatsoever, say some variation of "It couldn't be that bad!" to me. I guess my thinking face is a sad face? I'm working on that.

I've also been told that I'm too white to be black but too cool to be white.

I don't watch many movies, but if I had to pick a fav it'd either be Robin Hood Men in Tights or Young Frankenstein. I sort of stopped paying attention after those came out, assuming those had the lock as the pinnacle of filmmaking.

Music-wise... Josh Ritter, Steve Earle, John Prine, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Taj Mahal, Abigail Washburn.. I like Americana, bluegrass, and classic blues. I also really dig late 80's/early 90's hiphop like Big Daddy Kane, Tribe Called Quest, and KRS One and some of the more lyric-heavy contemporary hiphop like Binary Star, One Be Lo, and Jean Grae.

I did a lot of Shakespeare when I was in high school and dabbled in college. I blanked while delivering Henry V's Once More Unto the Breach speech and dropped an f-bomb on stage. I'll never forget the look on the face of the old lady in the front row. Didn't ruin Shakespeare for me though. Hope it didn't for her, either.

Lawyers, guns, and money. They'll get you out of anything.

The weather, because in Oklahoma it's equal parts fascinating and terrifying. There's also that fact that I've never seen a baby pigeon, nor has anyone else as far as I know.

And of course I'm often thinking about what I feel like I forgot.

I sold my couch to buy an aquarium nearly a year ago, and I still haven't replaced it. I'm sure that says something about both my priorities and my maturity.
