My self-summary
- always up for meeting new friends and having good conversations - over wine or beer? - even better. I tend to have my toes in several pools but when needed, I dive in head first - it keeps me busy. Still trying to make this city more tolerable. I recently finish school and I am continuing my career in new directions. I never thought I would be in the academia world for so long - so far so good. I'm lucky that I love what I do.

I'm a vegetarian, for over six years now. I love it more everyday and I love finding new wonderful, local, natural things to cook. I love cooking and I hate my current kitchen.

I am communicative, intelligent, and likeable
What I’m doing with my life
see my Self-Summary - I'm trying to get outside more often - discover more and "while in Rome" activitites- come on Cincinnati - impress me.

I have a dog, Bear (husky/Shepard mix) - he acts like a big cat- relaxed indoors and super active outdoors - couldn't ask for more in a dog. He knows all my secrets - and yes, I really do talk to him often. :)

I recently finished my doctoral studies at the University of Cincinnati. The city here - not the queer community that I thrive in. What is needed is a diverse community - specially with cultures and ages. Not sure where the next chapter will be located (*licks finger and holds it up in the air)

The older I get the more okay I am with not knowing what is next.

I play the alto saxophone, I recently joined a Jazz band (even I did not see that one coming). I recently got a banjo, and though I am learning the guitar still, I think I will be switching focus to the banjo - so much fun! Beards, beers, and banjos!
I’m really good at
Sign Language. I'm an interpreter and educator- I love it and always improving my skills. I love to interpret music - my career has been taking off with music venues over the past few years. I just started traveling for shows in the summer. I know a little about a lot, comes with my field, so - amuse me - teach me something new, perhaps I'll add something (I usually do, finding that trait adorable will keep you around longer, if having conversations irritates you, then no need to read more, and fyi- conversations involve turn taking and keeping an open mind).

Working with kids - its part of my job and its something I will be always involved with. They are our future and everyone has a responsibility to "give back" to youth.

Cool things I have done:
I have interpreted for the Dalai Llama, Ani Difranco, Dave Matthews and President Barack Obama - I now am traveling this summer to interpret music festivals -- the New Orleans Jazz Festival, Bonnaroo, and Rothbury Music fest (RIP Rothbury, I hope you come back from the dead). If you are going to be at one of those, you should let me know!

Dislikes: neediness, the inability to recognize the effects of behaviors on others, and elitist attitudes
The first things people usually notice about me
meet my friends and then ask them, they'll be honest :p Or when you meet me, let me know what you notice about me. That will help fill this one in.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Lots of books but what can I remember? hmm, well, a must and regular re-read is - When Things Fall Apart - Pema Chodron - I love her words, her take on life, her spirit and teachings. Another one, for entertainment- Carter Beats the Devil - Glen Gold: it should be a movie

Movies: ANY Super Hero Flicks,. Little Miss Sunshine, class B movies, and I'm a sucker for all the "extras" that come on DVDs. Also I am addicted to moviemistakes.com or goofs on IMDB - curiosity get the best of me.

Music: Folk/Bluegrass - I live a lesbian life - Punch Brothers, the Avett Brothers, The Swell Season, Brandi Carlile, The Weepeis, Damian Marley,m Stevie Wonder, Trevor Hall, Nickel Creek, Keller Williams, Alanis Morissette, Catie Curtis, Indigo Girls, CAKE, Ani Difranco, Beck, The Beatles, Barenaked Ladies, Ben Harper, Billie Holiday, Bob Marley, Buddy Guy, David Bowie, David Gray, Garbage, Jeff Buckley, Jet, Jimmy Eat World, Marrs, Matthew Sweet, Moby, Natalie Merchant, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, No Doubt, Norah Jones, Oasis, Patti Smith, Phish, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, PJ Harvey, The Police, Portishead, The Pretenders, Prince, Queen, REM, Radiohead, Sarah McLachlan, Steve Miller Band, Tom Petty,Tori Amos, Tracy Chapman, Violent Femmes, 10,000 Maniacs

Food: Thai & Indian - no meat please :) I don't mind a movie and pizza on sunday afternoons - but love healthy natural local plants - yum!
The six things I could never do without
1. my Bear-dog (husky/shepard mix) he's my buddy
2. laughter - a must - I wheeze at times, keep the laughs coming, I want lots of crows feet!
3. love - to give and receive - why else would we be here
4. my niece - who teaches me what family is
5. my hands - my passion and a beautiful language comes from these
6. learning - you can only get better

On a typical Friday night I am
not having a typical Friday night (that has a meaning in itself, to each their own). Usually out with friends - would love to be listening to live music.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
