My self-summary
As of today (3/20/2013), I've decided to completely redo this profile. I signed up for this site after a really awful breakup in the fall of 2009, which would have made me 25 and a half years old. I'm now 29, and I'm sure I'm a different person than I was 4 years ago, so it's probably time for some reinvention of the old Okcupid profile.

So umm...what do you want to know? I grew up in a small town on the jersey shore populated mostly by summer people. My mom's house is two blocks from the beach. It was a unique upbringing that I think very much shaped who I am today.

When I was 18 I moved to Philly to go to Film School at Temple and aside from an ill advised 2 year stint in Atlantic City, I've basically never left. I have a soft spot for where I grew up, but Philly just seems to have so much more to offer in terms of things to do (at least in the non-summer months)

I started playing the bass guitar when I was 14 years old and began playing in a series of punk bands because for some reason I was angry at my mundane middle class existence. I still play in bands when I have the time, but I'm far less angry. These days it's more of a hobby.

I really really like sports, so hopefully that's not a deal breaker. I absolutely live and die by the Philadelphia Flyers, and I rarely miss a game. I just want to get that out there, since some girls don't dig that.

Oh, and I'm straight edge. I have not drank, smoked, or done any sort of illegal drug for well over 10 years. I can still hang out at a bar, although I get annoyed at being packed in like a sardine, so I'd prefer someplace quieter where I can actually hear the person I'm with, and possibly get something to eat. If the fact that I'm straight edge is an issue for you, it's probably best to cruise to some other profiles, as we're probably not a good match. No hard feelings.

I'll finish with that old cliche: "if you wanna know more, just ask"
What I’m doing with my life
lately I find I've fallen into a disturbing pattern of working, coming home, going to the gym, eating dinner and going to sleep. I have fun on the weekends, but I've sort of started to get the feeling I've fallen into an "adult" rut (I don't wannnnnna be a boring adult). Currently I'm on the lookout for some sort of spark to get me out of it. Perhaps a new and fun lady friend could help?
I’m really good at
writing (my 12th grade english teacher told me she believed I could make a living at it. Too bad print is dead)
speaking (I've won public speaking awards. Dorkiest brag ever)
coming up with clever, rarely used adjectives
chess (wanna play with me?)
Being the endlessly self promoting guy in every one of my bands who needles promoters into booking us
The first things people usually notice about me
Physically, I always get a lot of compliments on my eyes, which are either green or blue or some sort of hazel, depending on who you ask.

Otherwise, I've got...ummm...a big personality. "Boisterous" is a good euphemism for it, but "loud" is probably a more accurate description. It's hard for me to go unnoticed.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Kurt Vonnegut, Chuck Klosterman, Hunter S Thompson, David Sedaris, Charles Bukowski, Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Catcher In The Rye, Our Band Could Be Your Life, Get In The Van, biographies of people I like, The Dirt: The Biography of Motley Crue (EASILY the most entertaining book ever written)

Quentin Tarantino, The Coen Brothers, Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson (except The Darjeeling Limited. That kind of stunk), Paul Thomas Anderson, Edgar Wright, Bill Murray, The Godfather, Good Will Hunting, The Shawshank Redemption, Almost Famous, Aliens, slasher movies, lots more

It's really too much to list all the music I like. My 160 gig Ipod is full. If you want to know specific bands, just ask. I LOVE hair metal, I also like punk rock, hardcore, metal, indie rock, stuff that was on the radio in the 90's, post rock, jazz, rap, "classic" rock and lots of other stuff

I also listen to the Howard Stern show every day, as well as a whole host of podcasts, including (but not limited to): WTF with Marc Maron, The Art of Wrestling, The Best Show On WFMU, Mike and Tom Eat Snacks, This American Life, How Did This Get Made? and Doug Loves Movies

My favorite food is pizza

The Sopranos, the first 12 or so seasons of The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Freaks and Geeks, the first 6 or so seasons of the american Office, Shameless
The six things I could never do without
4 years later and I still don't really care to answer this question. It just seems so stupid and constrictive. Either you go the literal route and say "food water shelter etc" or start listing your favorite stuff like your iphone. Either you come off as annoyingly literal or materialistic. In reality, there is very little that I could never do without, but quite a few things I'd rather hold onto.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
the Flyers (what can I say, I read a lot of hockey blogs), how far away 6 pm is (on weekdays anyway), what movie I should watch, and lately how to change my life for the better so I'm not bitter and regretful when I get older
On a typical Friday night I am
not doing a ton usually. I typically like to go to bed early on fridays because I'm tired from the week, then go out on saturdays. But sometimes I'll head to NJ to hang out with my best friend, or go to a show, or a movie or something
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have obstructive sleep apnea and I'm supposed to sleep with one of those ridiculous fighter pilot style masks on. I do it less than I should, which, considering the health risks, is foolish. But it's SO uncomfortable.

I also really overproduced warmed over newer "pop punk" bands like Fall Out Boy, The All American Rejects, Paramore, and Cartel. I've also seen every episode of Jersey Shore.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 24–34
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
I don't know, you want to?

I'm not going to kid myself. There are like 10 guys to every girl on this site, so if you read this far and think I seem like an ok guy, go ahead and say hello. I'm a nice, respectful dude and I won't treat you like shit.

If at ALL possible, maybe write just a little more than "hi". I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, it's just very hard to respond to "hi". It kinda puts the pressure on me to get the conversation going. Ask me about sports, music, movies, anything. Icebreakers really aren't as hard as some people make them out to be, especially in the silly surreal world of internet dating.
