My self-summary
The mustache commands respect. The beard demands cuddles.

In all seriousness, my profile was pretty schizophrenic. I've decided to pare it back a bit.

I suppose the formerly straight-edge screen name is off-putting to some.

Right now, I'm looking for adventure. I've been stuck in a rut and decided that I need to get out and learn new things, travel and volunteer. I also keep very active. Willing to teach me new stuff? Let's go.
What I’m doing with my life
I just moved to Chicago for an unpaid internship with a music magazine. Pretty excited to be here.

My degree is in English and Creative Writing. I'm trying to bring my interests in this and the outdoors together in some kind of new project.

I also write for a geek culture website (formerly just a movie news site). Ask me for the link if you'd like.

Like I said above, I'm really looking for adventure. Right now this involves a lot of time wasted on couchsurfing.org as well as applying for internships and jobs. I run regularly and I practice yoga. I want to learn to climb (I have a fear of heights and this seems a good way to conquer it) and get better at swimming. I miss hiking. I think everyone should spend more time outdoors.
I’m really good at
Laughing at myself. Making friends with dogs. Running. Writing poems that I hate a day later. Cleaning, probably because I can't stand to live in clutter.

Grammar. Please.
The first things people usually notice about me
I get a lot of comments on my tattoos? Including people lifting up my sleeve to get a better look. (Hint: Don't do that) The one on my chest is less obvious.

Also I wear glasses and have a beard.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
This changes on a daily basis. Music is hard to pin down. I listen to a wide variety.

Reading right now: As She Climbed Across the Table by Jonathan Lethem
The Ecstasy of Influence, also by Lethem
Zen Mind, Beginners Mind by Shunryu Suzuki
Working by Studs Terkel
Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynmann! by Richard Feynmann

I think lately I've just been buying music to buy it. I love it, but I'm apparently an addict.

There are times when I find non-fiction literature hard to stay interested in. I'm not particularly sure why, because I love learning, but my mind wanders a bit I suppose. I'm still working through Origin of the Species. This has been going on for the better part of a year.

Board games are a lot of fun, the more complex the better.

I am a movie addict. I have a huge collection, a fair number of which are utter crap. However, I can watch The Sting, The Muppet Movie and Casablanca over and over again.
The six things I could never do without
1. Music
2. Books
3. Exercise
4. My guitar (even though I have no idea how to use it)
5. Friends
6. Fresh Air
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Dinosaurs. Robots. Travel. Paranoia regarding hygiene even though I know I keep myself clean. Girls in sundresses. The future. Improving the world. Music. Words. Grammar. Roller-Skating. The outdoors, if I'm not out in them, and I'm probably thinking about them if I'm in them too.
On a typical Friday night I am
Drinking, gyming, running, Board-Gaming, Writing, Movie-watching, walking in the park-ing, show-going, Partying...hell, what is typical?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have minor anxiety. I fight through it, and am awesome.

See? Total self-confidence.

I also like to sing terrible 90s pop-punk in the shower.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 21–36
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, short-term dating, activity partners, long-distance penpals
You should message me if
I'd love to talk to someone who loves the outdoors, keeping active, and learning. If you can teach me something new, that'd be ideal too.

You're willing to exercise with me or at least put up with my compulsion.

You know a place we can play discgolf.

You have an open mind about new things.

Silence is an amenable thing when it happens.

You like facial hair and people attempting to grow facial hair. Also pompadours.

Also if you're willing to help me recreate the movie poster for John Carpenter's 'The Thing.' I just bought a new jacket with a giant hood. It has to be done.
