My self-summary
I'm Marianne, and I'm a geeky lesbian, very into computers and science, with a terrible, life destroying tea addiction. I grew up on a farm in north east England, but somehow picked up my mother's southern, Kentish accent instead of the local one. I've since lived all over the UK and by now probably have random bits and pieces from all over in my accent. On an MBTI (Myers-Briggs) personality test, I usually score as 50/50 between INTP and INFP, though I think I lean slightly towards the latter. If that means nothing to you, don't worry about it :)

Some people really don't seem to get my sense of humour, which isn't hugely surprising as it's often kinda strange and random. I'm shy, and sometimes a bit withdrawn, but I care about people a lot, and try to help others when I can. I also tend to open up and let my guard down more the more I get to know a person. Despite being very into science, I'm not dismissive of the idea of things science so far cannot explain, such as things referred to as "the supernatural", in fact I've had some really weird "inexplicable" things happen in my life that I can't just dismiss. I have a mild phobia of cathode ray tubes, because of an old TV half-electrocuting me when I was 12, and I'm terrified of wasps, because they're evil little flying harbingers of doom and stingy pain.

I don't believe in a lot of the crap that a significant proportion of society seems to adhere to, such as my appearance being judged by how much I'm dressing in the latest fashions, or the silly idea that girls should be anorexically thin to be attractive - curves are hot! Traits I find attractive in other people are intelligence, an open mind and willingness to think for themselves, honesty, and a caring, compassionate nature. Geekiness earns you extra points! Alternative ways of earning extra points include making me cups of tea :)

I am shy, geeky, and caring
What I’m doing with my life
Currently I'm teaching myself programming in C and variant languages (beyond the basic stuff I already know), since the last programming I really did was on ancient computers when I was 8-15, and I want to learn computer game development amongst other things. I teach myself a lot about computers, and read a lot about science in general... I also do a little music composition occasionally, weird ambient electronica type stuff.
I’m really good at
Fixing computers and making them actually do what I want them to (including geeky and complex stuff), cooking (if I have the energy and have learnt a dish - though my stranger improvised dishes can also be quite yummy), acting sweet and innocent, finding and absorbing information (both useful and not), teasing kitties with laser pointers, finding obscure and weird music, making and drinking (ridiculous amounts of) tea, and buying things that I probably shouldn't.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm very tall! I also tend to go shy and quiet for a while when I first meet someone. Maybe also how long my hair is?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, the Harry Potter series, random programming books.

Movies: Certain anime, The Matrix(eses), Pleasantville, Dark City, Bound, But I'm a Cheerleader, Finding Nemo (because it's so *cute*!!), Fantasia... I have a wide variety of tastes really.

TV: Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica (the new one), The Bill, Eastenders, Neighbours, and Being Human.

Music: The Orb, Boards of Canada, Talking Heads, Banco de Gaia, Massive Attack, REM, Sneaker Pimps, Future Sound of London, Jean Michel Jarre, Ladytron, UNKLE... a lot of ambient or electronica music in general... Though I can like a wide, eclectic range of stuff, just not hideous mass manufactured pop crap that lacks any actual creativity.

Food: Many things, from sushi to kebabs. I love spicy foods, too. Avacadoes are yummy, and as long as I'm in the right mood for it I love chocolate. My favourite alcoholic drinks are baileys in hot chocolate, and peach schnapps with grapefruit juice.
The six things I could never do without
* Computers to play with!
* Music, I'm mildly synaesthetic meaning I literally see sound, which makes music very cool (and also able to affect my emotional state a lot at times)
* My friends
* My vast collection of fairy lights which light up my bedroom
* My vast collection of stuffed animals that live in my bed
* Here's a clue: Hot caffeinated beverage, 3 letters... :P
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Geeky stuff, political stuff (my views tend to be a kinda mix between liberal and socialist), the people I care about, random philosophical stuff, along with thoughts related to my slightly odd sorta-pagan-ish spiritual side...
On a typical Friday night I am
Still drinking too much tea.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I watch soap operas. The horror! I have a few disabilities, parts of which are (at times significant) energy problems, along with intermittent depression and anxiety problems. That, and I have a secret weakness to fry's chocolate creams. They're the yummiest vegan chocolate around (even though I've since become non-vegan)!
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like girls
  • Ages 18–81
  • Located anywhere
  • For new friends
You should message me if
I guess if you think I sound interesting and want to talk, do :) and I'd just like to mention that "lesbian" does not mean "man-hater", so I'm quite happy to talk to guys and make friends with them!
