I am spontaneous, adventurous, and magnanimous.
My Self-Summary
[EDIT: I'm currently seeing someone; she's awesome. Ironically, we
met offline. Go figure. If you think we'll get along and you just
want to be friends, send me a message. Also, I should note, the
winks and one line compliments are nice, but if you want a
meaningful response, send me a meaningful message.]
I was born in Mexico City, but I grew up in the D.C. area. I went
to Tufts University and studied abroad in Japan.
I'm a bit of a thrill seeker and I love challenging myself. Most
recently that means I went sky diving, got into parkour, and ran in
a 200 mile relay race.
When I'm not working out, I enjoy going on culinary adventures,
wine and beer tastings, brunch-exploring D.C., always getting lost,
cooking, reading the New York Times every morning, discovering new
beers (especially at Pizzeria Paradiso), and mixing new
drinks.

Send me an IM during the week if you want to chat. I'll be at work
and a great conversation always makes my day go by more quickly.
Now in Japanese
はじめまし、僕はRaul といます。Mexico に生まれたけど、しゅしんはWashington D.C.

What I’m doing with my life
I'm a paralegal at a non-profit, civil rights organization. I plan
to go to law school, but I love not being broke, so I'll probably
wait another year or two.
I’m really good at
* Cooking. I make a mean halibut ceviche with salsa verde.
* Mixing drinks. My most recent creation: spiced chai tea, Calvados
apple brandy, Grand Marnier, maple syrup, and milk. It smells like
Christmas. Yes, Christmas is a smell.
* Cuddling. I'm a very affectionate guy and I love cuddling.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm the only guy at the party wearing a tie, usually a skinny tie.
Sometimes, I even throw on a vest or a blazer. I like dressing up.
What can I say?
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
My favorite book is Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Nietzsche. I love
reading philosophy, but I also like detective novels. I read a lot,
but mostly non-fiction.
Movies: I have a soft spot for great romance movies including The
Science of Sleep, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Before
Sunset, and Lost In Translation. Ohh, and I LOVE horror
movies.
Music: !!!, Beardfish, The Decemberists, The Mars Volta, Nine Inch
Nails, Opeth, and Porcupine Tree.
Food: Mexican, Indian, Thai, brunch, Japanese, raw oysters.
TV: 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Black Adder, Dexter, Good Eats,
House, Nevermind the Buzzcocks, QI, and Top Gear. If you recognize
all of those shows, you're probably British, really awesome, or
maybe both.
The six things I could never do without
1) Family & friends
2) My iPod
3) GPS because I always get lost
4) The internet because some of my best friends live on other
continents
5) Belgian beer
6) My time travel device. Wait....what?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how I always seem to misread "You should message me if" as "You
should MASSAGE me if."
On a typical Friday night I am
My Fridays are never typical, and my weekends don't have a routine.
I might be going out with friends to a jazz bar and smoking shisha,
having friends over for some drinks, or simply recovering from a
crazy Thursday night, knowing Saturday always brings an adventure.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I went streaking, in Boston, in December, and I was sober.
Twice!
There are probably pictures of it somewhere, so maybe it's not so
private.
You should message me if
you live within 2 miles of a metro station, or you're willing to
drive. No, seriously.
The following aren't requirements, but if some apply to you, we'll
probably get along:
- you are passionate about something, ANYTHING;
- you already knew what "magnanimous" meant, or decided to look it
up because you didn't;
- you like watching horror movies, even if they scare you to
death;
- you pick on your friends because you love them;
- you work out at least once a week and ENJOY it;
- the picture of me wearing a bearded and mustachioed balaclava
made you laugh.
You should massage me if...you're any good at it.
I have dated, and am interested in, girls of all races and
ethnicities. Apparently some people don't date outside their race;
I've never understood that. My ex is 10 years older, so if you're
cool with dating a 23 year old, you're probably not too old for
me.
Most importantly, if you speak Japanese with any degree of
proficiency, guy or girl, young or old, we need to be friends.
Like, right meow. I'm forgetting Japanese at an alarming rate!
