My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Ok, here goes. I'm a 39 year old guy, back in the dating world after a decade+. I'm moving on, moving forward, rediscovering myself and my interests. I'm not originally from Illinois, so I don't have many connections here (although the few friends I do have are great people and I'm extremely lucky to know them). Hence the online dating scene. Hopefully I'll get to meet some more great people and have a good time as I navigate through this new life (ok, that last part was a little too generic. Hey, nobody said writing this stuff was easy!).

Update: I had some blurry photos posted, which okcupid deemed unworthy of their site. I'd be happy to share photos if you ask, I just prefer to be selective and not put them out there for everyone to view (I have to be discrete due to my employment, I'm not running around behind anyone's back).
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Aah, my life. Connecting with my kids on a whole new level is my main focus. They've been my best buds since they were born, and now I have the freedom to interact with them in my own way. We've developed a new identity amongst ourselves, and I love it. I spend a lot of time with my siblings, nieces and nephews. I work in healthcare, and I love what I do. It really is the best job in the world. I'm a running junkie, a sports fan (I won't mention my teams on here, but I'm no fair weather fan), a movie lover, a reader (grew up on Stephen King, but my interests go from the Steve Jobs biography to The Kite Runner to Tuesdays With Morrie to Moonwalking with Einstein, to name a few). I'm also a techie, and although that doesn't dominate my life, I love my gadgets.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I would never discuss this if I wasn't asked. Since it's on here, I guess people are interested in the answer, so here it is: I'm most proud of who I am as a father. There are so many facets of being a dad that I feel I excel at, and although I'm not perfect, I think I do a pretty damn good job. I'm great at my job, and am always learning. I'm proud of my writing skills, my dedication (it's not easy for a guy who grew up with asthma to run a marathon, but I put my mind to it and did it), and my ability to learn new things. I am also good at being empathetic. I realize that people behave the way they do for a reason, and I try to understand where they are coming from rather than just react to what they're doing. Wish I could add comedian to the list, but I'm one of those people who forgets a joke two minutes after I hear one (I can quote Seinfeld, though, since I've seen every episode 20 times!).
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
People always comment on the fact that I'm always smiling.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: the ones I mentioned earlier, also Born to Run, 11/22/63.
Movies: Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Shawshank, When Harry Met Sally (yes, I have a softer side), Ferris Bueller.
Shows: 10 points if you guessed Seinfeld.
Music: I grew up on hair metal, but I have a diverse musical interest. My iPod has everything from John Legend to John Lennon, from CCR to Eminem, Queen to Guns N' Roses, with a little Beyonce and Kesha sprinkled in.
Food: everything! I wouldn't call myself a foodie. I'm discovering cooking, so my menu is somewhat limited. But I love all types of ethnic foods. Indian, Thai, sushi, Mexican, it's all good. But I can also handle a good pizza or a burger.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
By things, I'm assuming we're talking about objects and not people. So I'll start off with my laptop, Internet, my car, food, and my contacts (you don't want me behind the wheel without those!)
