I'm sort of addicted to reading certain Buddhist teachers, like
Pema Chodron, Tara Brach, Sharon Salzburg, Jack Kornfield,
Usually, I’m re-reading whatever I’m teaching; most recently, I
taught Barthes, Breton, & Christian Bok, moving on to Harryette
Mullen, Jen Bervin, Ronald Johnson, & Jack Spicer.
MOVIES: anything by Fellini, but my favorites are La Dolce Vita and
8 1/2. Also love Bergman, Kieslowski, Bier, Almodovar, Truffaut,
Wai, Jadorowsky, Tarkovsky—too many to name, but you get the
MUSIC: Samuel Barber, Erik Satie, Bach, Nina Simone, Billie
Holiday, Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Ros, Bjork, Dirty Three,
Sonic Youth, Cat Power, Blonde Redhead, Grimes, Iron and Wine,
Elliot Smith, Velvet Underground & Nico, Sufjan Stevens, Arcade
Fire, Beach House, Sleater-Kinney, Hidden Cameras, The Cure,
Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey, Joy Division, Zoe Keating, Wye Oak, Fever
Ray, The Knife, etc. I’m open to most genres, but the above get me
going. I like to listen to Oldies when I clean—reminds me of my
FOOD: I’ve been vegetarian for about sixteen years now, though
moving toward vegan. My favorite is Indian.
