I am Artsy, Deep-thinkin', and Energetic.
My Self-Summary
Hi! I'm Shira. I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area.. and I'm a
willing Midwestern transplant. I think there is more to life than
weather, and weather is only worth talking about if it's extreme--
and it'd be weird NOT to talk about it. I'm into really good
conversations and silly conversations.. picnicking by the lake..
drawing and doodling and the occasional craft (I've found a new
passion for making birthday cards, so if it's your birthday soon,
aren't YOU in luck). I'm a good hula hooper, and I make some mean
sweet potato fries. But you can't really ruin a sweet potato.
Nature's already made them pretty good, don't you think?
What I’m doing with my life
I finished up grad school in June, where I got my masters in social
work at the University of Chicago. I recently started working at an
anti-hunger non-profit. I plan on sticking around in Chicago for
the time being. Good city, I approve.
I’m really good at
Complimenting people, snapping loudly, writing essays, making
coasters out of floppy disks, making the perfect PB&J (the PB
has to be on Both slices of bread, you see), multi-tasking, Taboo,
analyzing things, listening to people, dancing the Charleston,
dancing the Buffalo
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, Middlesex,
Hotel New Hampshire, The World According to Garp, The History of
Love, Everything is Illuminated
Music: Sufjan Stevens, Spoon, Death Cab for Cutie, Regina Spektor,
Broken Social Scene, Ratatat
Food: chocolate chip cookies, cherry yogurt, most cereals, new and
adventurous foods as long as they're meatless and unspicy
You didn't ask, but favorite TV shows: Daily Show, Colbert Report,
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Office
The six things I could never do without
One: Good-hearted people around me (though I might still choose
bad-hearted over no people at all)
Two: Cheese (so good!)
Three: Books (Don't believe them, real-paper books will never go
away)
Four: My Nalgene water bottle (I freak out when I lose it)
Five: My sisters (I got 2! They're twins)
Six: My teddy bear (I guess you might as well know that about me..
I've slept with it since birth. It's been washed at least a few
times, I swear.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Social justice and the complicated path to get it, schooly stuff,
jobby stuff, where I last lost my Nalgene (or umbrella, or
sweatshirt..), weekend plans, love and life and the petty details
in between
On a typical Friday night I am
Eating a cozy dinner with friends or chilling at a bar or doing
homework or watching a movie or dancing on someone's kitchen
floor.. Yeah. You know. Whatevs.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Man, I already revealed the teddy bear thing.. should I go deeper?
How about some honesty. I'm into meeting awesome people and
just-fun dating, but I think it's cool if there's a possibility for
something to become more. If it's
the-possibility-for-something-more kinda thing though, it'd be
great if that person were Jewish.
You should message me if
You think I'm cool, you want to make the world a better place in
some way, you're creative, you're smart, you're honest, and you
like to have real conversations. Message me up yo.
