My self-summary
April 2, 2014 - Update - Currently seeing someone

I am almost 39...I have drifted in the past few years...not in terms of like sketchy crap but rather in terms of my life...I spent a number of years babying billionaire clients in the financial sector...decided to move to Australia to do my first masters degree...moved back...drifted around a bit, mostly in the financial sector...I then decided to quit my 24/7 stressful nightmare of a job and do an MBA (I finish end of June).

I used to play squash and then hurt everything...my Achilles, my knee, my shoulder, my elbow, wrist...so I stopped playing squash and gained some of weight.

The deal is this...In four months I am done my MBA...I've hired a trainer and the process of dropping the weight is well under way...In nine months I will be where I want to be...good job, healthy and fit...and while it's more likely that I will meet somebody then, I am open to the possibility that something wonderful could happen romantically before I am at my best.

I'd like to chat and then take you for a drink and together we can end this silly singleness and move on with our lives...hand in hand....well, hand in claw...ok just kidding, I have all my body parts :)

- I've been to 20+ countries (Favorites cities: London, Paris, Boston and Sydney...fave countries: Japan, Thailand and Australia)
- I am decent cook
- I have two environmental degrees (Bach and Masters) and am working on an MBA
- I have a 14 year old cat named Taiko. She is grouchy.
- I have one tattoo
- I am a wine and beer snob
- I have an eclectic taste in art. The walls of my place have photographs, aboriginal art, animation art, comic art, street art and a Jackson Pollock (obviously a reprint)
- I think tomatoes are evil
- Photography is a serious hobby of mine
- I collect signed literary novels (i.e. Christopher Moore, Stephen King as well as Giller/Man Booker/Pulitzer types) and signed movie posters (Coolest is probably my Forbidden Planet poster signed by Leslie Neilson)
- I attend a fair number of film festivals (TIFF, Hot Docs, Short Film fest) and pretty much all the literary festivals (WOTS, IFOA, Appel events) fests every year. I have no expectation that these are your thing but would love it if my interests were shared to a degree.

What I’m doing with my life
I am currently pursuing my 2nd Masters degree (an MBA) ... attending all the fun summer festivals in the city ... I run a book club that occasionally hosts authors and such (I started it in 2009)
I’m really good at
Planning trips and organizing things. Being creative when inspiration strikes.
The first things people usually notice about me
Sense of humor mostly ... Which is now where I am supposed to make some super witty joke that will make you believe I have a sense of humor ... however, I am not going to do that ... that's right "old buck convention Alex" they call me ... never makes the joke you expect him to.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
In order to make this recent, this is just the best of what I've enjoyed in 2013/14

Books
Andrew Kaufman: All My Friends are Superheroes
Lindsay Faye: Seven for a Secret
Ruth Ozeki: A Tale for the Time Being
HW Brands: The Man Who Saved the Union
Andre Agassi: Open

Movies
Gravity
Wind Rises (TIFF)
Bad Words (TIFF)

Shows
Elementary
Parks and Recreation

Music
I am pretty stuck on the alternative stuff from the 1990's and classic 80's as I don't listen to the radio or have cable. I do add stuff on occasion if I hear something I like in a movie or tv show though. Nothing notable this year.

Food
Thai
French
The six things I could never do without
At the end of the day "stuff" is just "stuff". People are what really matter. I certainly have my share of possessions that I love but if the apartment was on fire, I'd grab my cat first and then probably my laptop.

In a less serious vein...I have an unnatural affection for diet pepsi...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What the next cool event in the city is and who to go with...where life is going...how best to cuddle my grouchy cat...I don't know...stuff...does "stuff" count?
On a typical Friday night I am
There is no typical...it depends on the season and what's happening...it often seems to be a movie/dinner night with friends...in the summer it seems to be more festivals...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've met the real Kermit the Frog and getting to shake his hand was unspeakably cool...my picture with Animal sitting on my shoulders (which I am forbidden to share online) is my favorite photo ever.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 28–38
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
If a different kind of guy appeals to you...if you are interested in meeting somebody with the creativity, drive, ambition and sense of fun...if you want a guy who knows what he wants and is ready to meet the right woman.
