My self-summary
Let's start with the basics. Oh, and I promise to do my best to make this interesting...not saying I'll succeed, but I guess you'll be the judge of that. :-P

First off, my life philosophy: The only difference between laugh lines and crows feet is perspective.

You'll notice that this philosophy applies to both how you get them AND what you think of them after you've got 'em.

I'm more of a "laugh lines" kind of guy.

Second, my passions:

Music - I'm a singer/songwriter. I play the piano. I am a grounded artist, though...not one of those sad, deluded individuals who thinks that everyone should/would love their work. Art is subjective, so if you don't like my music, that's okay! It'd be a tiny bummer, but it's not a dealbreaker for me.

My goal isn't to find a fan, it's to find a guy who can back me up (emotionally and psychologically) when I work to pursue my passions and dreams. He can hate my songs as long as he loves that I love to write and perform them. :-)

That being said, here's hoping you love them. LOL

Next on the list? Career! Right now I am working for a tech company in a great position. I worked my ass off to get where I am. I'm great at what I do, but it's definitely not my long-term plan. That being said, I'm not the kind of person to be hyper-focused on the future. I think the present is way too amazing and important to spend it all wishing for some-day-soon.

Health! Sooooo, I would like to apologize if some of my pictures make me come across as this narcissistic gym rat. I spent a lot of my life getting teased for being woefully underweight. I actually have had health problems (which have since been remedied) due to my ex-scrawniness.

A few months back, I said to myself, "What the hell, Joshua!?" It wasn't an epiphany, per say. I just got tired of not making the changes I kept telling myself I'd make, and finally made them.

So I do go to a gym. It's helped to adjust my point of view a lot. I look at my body in such a different light now.

You might be wondering, "Why post those pictures if you are worried they make you look like an ego-centric whey-head?" Good question! I uploaded them because they make me happy. About myself. Physically. I've always enjoyed my mind (as evidenced by my daydreaming) and my talents (I could play a piano mindlessly until my fingers fall off), but I've always had some level of disdain for my body.

Although...don't most gay men? LOL Aw...that was a little maudlin...

Anyway, it makes me happy to be reminded of all my hard work and the progress I've made, so why not share that happiness? I hope that makes sense.

If you're still reading this, thank you for not doing the whole "TL;DR" thing. Now I will reward you:

I have the best dog in the world (said every dog owner ever...unless they have been on an episode of "Dog Whisperer"). She's small and loves snuggling. She's the antithesis of a Chihuahua: never barks (unless something startles her), never does that sad trembly/shaky thing, has never nipped or bitten anyone, and knows how to do all sorts of super cute tricks.

I can make her lay down then roll her around on the ground. I call the trick "rolling pin." I'm totally serious.

She's also best friends with my best friend's Flamepoint Siamese cat.

I recently learned that I am allergic to both cats and dogs, which has explained a lot.... LOL

I think that's enough for this self-summary, don't you? Oh look. More places to write essays! (see below)
What I’m doing with my life
I'm working hard to make myself the best version of me that there can be. That applies to all areas of my life. I've already talked about my physicality. I'm also striving to improve my career, my family life, my friends and their lives, my future - whatever that may be.

I know that's sort of vague and generic, but it's honest.
I’m really good at
I'm a great singer and a fairly good pianist. I suppose whether I'm good at songwriting is a subjective assessment. I made it to 2013's ArtsKC's art@work semi-finals for a song I wrote, so I guess I'm all right! ;)

I'm told I'm a good writer, but I hope you won't judge that skill based on these essays.
The first things people usually notice about me
People comment most often on my smile and my eyes/eyelashes. I have a fond memory of being in a piano contest when I was a kid. I found out that I was marked a Superior (the highest ranking). Later, my piano teacher and I got the judges' notes. One judge had written that she would have given me an Excellent (one step below Superior) but was swayed by my big brown eyes. That still makes me smile to this day!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My favorite book is easily "The Little Prince." A close second is the as-yet-unpublished manuscript my brother had me read. He's a stupid-good writer. It's incredible stuff.

As for movies, some of my favorites across a variety of genres would be (in random order), "Adam & Steve," "Minority Report," "Hanna," "Were the World Mine," and probably a host of others I can't think of at the moment.

TV: My favorite series of all time has to be Buffy. I also love "Strangers with Candy," "The Mindy Project," "Fringe," "Dexter," and "Banshee."

Music: Patrick Wolf, Darren Hayes, MsMr, OneRepublic (see profile photos), Carolina Liar, needtobreathe, Alanis Morissette, Metric, etc... I'm currently obsessed with Bastille.

I can't pick a favorite food because I'm a huge food lover. I CAN tell you that two dishes which have always been a big love of mine are curried squash soup and biscuits & chocolate gravy. I think that last one is a southern Missouri thing. People from that area know what I'm talking about, but everyone else just looks at me like I'm crazy. ("Chocolate gravy? What the...?!")
The six things I could never do without
1. My dog
2. A piano or keyboard
3. A pen
4. A pad of paper
5. An imagination
6. A bed
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Song lyrics, life in general, and character/story ideas.
On a typical Friday night I am
Lately, I've been a staunch homebody. I do go out with a friend of mine from time-to-time and act as his designated driver. However, the bar world isn't my world; it feels a bit alien to me.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
The most private thing I'm willing to admit is that my Invisalign gives me dry mouth. :-P
