hey there. i'm a new media artist and theorist. i'm also a phd student in critical theory at duke right now, which means i spend a lot of time reading & writing. the boring intellectual life, you know. but i balance that with my art practice, which focuses on forms of digital activism and queer aesthetics. i split my time equally between la and duke; makes life much more interesting and exciting.

i'm from a small town in the no-place between the mid-west and the south. but i suppose most people would say it's the south. thanks to school, i've moved around a lot and have had the chance to live in many great cities.

when i'm not working or studying, i do other non-academic, art fag things like go see shows, take bike rides, plan vegan meals, or geek out with tech manuals and hacking.

it's the nature of grad students to complain, but i'm pretty happy with my life.

i'll break it down just to some basics or this list could go on forever.

reading: samples and smatterings of queer theory, new media theory, political theory, art / aesthetic theory, tech manuals, postmodern lit (such as cyberpunk or dennis cooper), and then there are all the blogs and online journals.
currently on the desk:

terrorist assemblages: homonationalism in queer times
the freedom of the migrant: objections to nationalism
the future of the image
escape routes: control and subversion in the 21st century
commonwealth

movies: modernism to trash. french new wave, japanese horror, czech new wave, john waters, 80s & 90s anime, british kitchen sink dramas & swinging london, giallo, queer cinema, and warhol (because he's a category unto himself).

music: i'm limiting myself to the names of 10 artists here.
the smiths, broadcast, white magic, fennesz, my bloody valentine, animal collective, colleen, moutains, joe meek, kevin blechdom...ah, fine, i have to throw in gang gang dance!

food: pretty much try to eat vegan as consistently as possible (which is 98% of the time, i'd say). there's a lot of thai food in my diet.
